Rear brake stay and floating brake

I am finishing up the rear brakes on my 78 GS750 cafe. I have a 600 Bandit caliper mounted in the stock location with a lighter late model disc. Back in the day (drum brakes mostly) the brake stay arm mounted to the swingarm as our GS models do. Then Suzuki got smart with their dirt bikes and moved the stay from the brake drum to the frame. This reduced brake chatter and gave a better feel to the pedal. I am kicking around the idea of modifying the GS for a "floating " caliper. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? The anchor is the easy part, adding spacer etc to allow the caliper to float is more difficult.
