Well, tires won't fit on it at all

It will bolt directly onto your 1000

People have put up to 5.5" wheels in there, I've got a 4.5 in mine with clearance.

i have come to understand that the swing arm bolt from the 78 model and the 80 model are diffrent sizes
does it matter what year model of 1100 gsx i get from?

Check a parts fiche on the bolt issue - I've got the aluminum swinger on my 78 and 79

I don't think it matters what year swing arm you use, I'm pretty sure they're all the same- check the parts fiche to confirm

I don't know when they first appeared from the factory...the '82 1100E maybe??

But on my blue '83 1100E the rear rim was widened to 4.5" and I have a 160 Dunlop Sportmax radial on it that just fits into the swingarm with about 3/16" clearance on either side at the point of the widest cross-section of the tire. The only issue is I have to be double careful when I adjust the chain to ensure that I have the tire correctly aligned and centered within the swingarm since I have minimal clearance on either side.
