GSXR1100 swingarm dimensions

I know there are a million swingarm questions but I wasn't able to find the info.........

I'm looking for the dimensions for an 88-98 GSXR 1100/750 swingarms. I'm looking for the pivot width, pivot/axle length, and width at the axle if possible. I have read that the 750 and 1100 are the same and i've also heard that the 1100 is 2" longer. Can anyone confirm which is correct? I was also told that the bandit 1200 and RF900 (not sure what exact years) arms are the same as the GSXR...is this correct?

I'm looking at doing a monoshock converion on a 78 GS750 frame. I have a VFR750 arm but if i'm unable to mak that work I will go with a regular monoshock arm. If I go with a different arm, I would like something with the style of the GSXR arm. Ideally something a little longer than a stock gs750 arm. So if anyone has any other ideas I will check those out as well. Some others I have looked at but don't have specs on...SV650/1100, blackbird, 97-00 GSXR600....

Unfortunately I don't have the answers to your questions but I would like to stay in contact with you. I've just started to consider the possibility of a similar project with my '83 GS1100e. If it happens at all it wouldn't be until next year but from now until then I was going to try and learn as much as I could about such a modification. I volunteer my services as a research assistant of sorts but with the depth of knowledge and experience of the members of this forum I'm sure the answers to your questions are already "known" by any number of people here.

I believe the easiest conversion is to use a bandit swingarm.

I have personally used a GSXR 1100 K swingarm on my conversion but it's more difficult as the swingarm pivot area is too wide for the GS 1000 frame.
I had it machined down, but you must also reduce the spacer between the bearings to keep a tight fit

i got a GSXR1100M swinger in my GS (ok so its a JMC arm). i had the frame mounts widened to fit the arm in. if i remember correctly i used the stock GS bearing spacers in the GSXR arm,fit straight in. that way you can use the stock GS pivot bolt.

I got this comment once or twice before
When you know the force needed to bend a piece of steel this big you stop worrying
The advantage of this design is that I can easily increase the height of the bike by inserting a spacer on top of the shock.

I have one here that is from a '92 1100. Looks just like the one in your picture. It is in the attic space in my garage, i could get it down this evening and measure it. I was going to install it on my '83 750 but i ended up putting a '93 1100 one on it instead. I'd sell the '92 if you would be interested... This is my 750.

Jon Kat, thanks for the info and pics. Will any year/model bandit arm work or does it have to be specific? What size tire do you have on your bike?

I don't necessarily have to have an arm that bolts directly on. As long as I don’t have to rebuild the frame/arm to make it work. A small amount of machining is fine and expected. I'm already planning on having to make spacers and bushings.

Do all the chain drive models of this era have the same frame pivot width? I've seen a GS1000 with the VFR SSA, but if its the same width as my 750, i'm not sure how they made it work.

Nice looking bike! If you feel like digging it out and measuring that would be awesome. However, I certainly don't expect you to climb around your attic to get me measurements.

How are you doing with your project? Mine is moving right along. The entire front end from a '92 GSXR1100 should be delivered on Tuesday. The guy I bought it from also has the wheels and he is nice enough to hold them for a couple of weeks. Did I already tell you that in a previous email? Anyway, I have to slow down a little bit. I'm now looking at monoshocking the bike. I think I will eventually have to say no to that for right now, but there are a lot of tempting deals out there on swingarms.

I can't answer for the Bandit swingarm but the tire I use is a 160/60*17 on a 4.5 inch wheel.
It's apparently possible to fit a 180 tire but it will not leave much space for the chain run

I've pulled the '92 1100 gsxr arm down from the garage attic, center of pivot to center of axle adjustment range is 23 1/2 in. and 8 15/16 in. wide at pivot point.

Bix, Haven't done any actual work on the bike. Been busy and the weather sucks. Right now i'm just trying to get a plan going for everything.

Here are some specs I got for the bandit 1200 arm (not sure the specific year but looks identical to the gsxr arm posted previously)

pivot diam 20 or 21mm
max length pivot centre to wheel spindle centre 600mm
min length 582mm
