gs1100e swingarm in a gs1000s chassis

Having read a few post's here, it seems as though the swing arm is a direct bolt on fit. I currently have this modifacation(1100 arm to 1000 frame) I noticed upon dissassembly, that when the swingarm pivot shaft nut was removed, there was clearance between the frame and swingarm. It would be fairly simply to shim up, but before I go through that process, does anyone here have any input on this matter? Thanks.

Have you got the dust seal covers fitted? If so you shouldn't have a gap there.

Yes. seals are in place on both sides. In an unrelated item, how does one list bikes you have, own, ect?

In user CP (in the menu bar at the top) select edit signature and enter your bikes there.

How much clearence? a few .000, room to put it together is normal, 1/4 inch is not normal.

I think I'd torque the nut back down and check it again. Could be the frame just spread slightly when the nut was removed. Probably not unusual.

Aprox. 1/16 ". almost the thicknes off a washer.Just trying to see what is normal per se'. I believe it would be best to shim it and try not to load the chassis

Possible the previous owner "spread" the frame a little as the rear foot peg frame member may have been touching the swingarm?

Does it have the spacer (very large O.D. washer) that fits INSIDE the swing arm outer seals.
You may have to use a pick tool to find it as the grease usually sticks them inside.
If they are NOT in there, that could explain the gap.

1/16" doesn't seem like much. I would definitely torque the nut back down and check everything again, before I'd go shimming things that maybe don't need to be shimmed.

Thanks guy's. When it gets pulled down after the mock up I will check this out as well as the bearigs bushings ect.
