The rear shocks on my 650 seen pretty soft, even with the springs cranked all the way. I have a set of shocks off a 77 750 and an 83 850. Would it firm the ride up at all if I swapped them out?

the 750 ones are eye to clevis, won't fit.
The 850 ones will fit, it will be a very hard spring rate on the lighter 650. The length will be a little different too. -

I don't know the GS650 stock shock length but I imagine it's a little shorter than the 13" (330mm) length of the GS850. If the 850 shocks are OEM then they may be sagging a little from age anyway. They may not lift the rear end up enough to quicken the steering too much or make it touchy. Shock length affects steering geometry.

My son's "Ratbagger" bike (see link in my sig) has 850 shocks.
The ride is just fine, it just leans a lot more when on the side stand.
