am26 cracking issues?

Do the avon roadriders still have cracking issues?

I'd like to try the avons, but I'm a bit worried that I may have problems.

I was also looking at:
Dunlop d404, (short lived)
Pirelli sport demons, (super sticky, short lived)
Kenda kruz, (cheap, if they're anything like the challengers, I'll pass!)
Duro ? (even cheaper than the kenda, so I dunno...)
Continental something (I had conti's in the past, I liked them.)
pirelli rt66 (unavailable)

I plan on getting my tires locally, so this was about what was available in my price range. The avons were the most expensive of the quotes.

I have old and sucky Kenda Challengers that are way past their prime, so I need new tires asap!

So I guess the question is Avon, Pirelli or Continental?

I have 650gl.

Ive had two rear avons crack and both were replaced under warranty. I still believe they crack in freezing temps.

Have a look at Shinko's,the 712 or 230's have gotten some good reviews.

Don't do the Dunlop d404s. The difference between a tire like the avons is very noticeable.

Bridgestone BT-45's, I swear by them. Really good combo of grip, mileage and wet handling characteristics at a realistic price.

the avon tyre are top end tyres for grip ect, but they had a problem with cracking that was due to using cheaper compounds in the build of the tyres, trying to save money but now they have sorted this problem and gone back to the standard compounds,
cold and hot weather fount this problem out as the tyre was not flexing to these extreme temp changes
i hope this makes things clearer to why your tyres have cracked

I'll second the BT45's, I have been running them for a few years, mileage isn't the best but 6-7K is OK by me, because the handling is there. They also do not chase cracks like alot of others I ridden on.
