    Brake line compatibility

I have a 79 GS850GN and I'd like to upgrade/replace my brake hoses with stainless braided lines.

I've seen people here recommend Rennsport as a vendor, but the only listing they appear to have is for 81-82 GS850s.

Does anyone know if there are major differences between the years? I.e., would these work, or are there minor changes I could request from Rennsport?

The front of the 850 basically did not change throughout the years.

However, one thing that DID change was the style of caliper. The '79 had the old style, '80 and newer models all had the newer style. Not sure if that meant a difference in the brake line, though.

      Different master cylinders, too.

Don't know if that has any effect on the line either.

Well, I've just taken off the '79 calipers and the hoses fit perfectly on to the '80 calipers (although, years ago I'd replaced them with SS lines, so whether the original lengths are identical, I don't know).

OK, I just did some looking for you.

The upper hose (from master cylinder to splitter on forks) is the same part number for all non-"L" 850s and 1000s from '78 through '81.

The lower hoses (from the splitter to the calipers) are the same part number for all non-"L" 750s through 1100s from '77 through '83.

If you're looking at the Rennsport ads on eBay, don't pay any attention to the bike in the ad, just the number of lines. The ad contains instructions for specifying the length, color, etc of the lines.
