Any difference in 1000G and GL fork stanchions?

I have done some searching but nothing comes up.
The parts fische show different numbers, but does anyone know if the GL stanchions will work on the G forks?

    Thanks for any help.

I'm no expert, but pretty sure you have to use triple tree from L to use forks. If you "search" threads under L forks should be several past threads on this. terrylee

      Thanks Terrylee,
I have searched, but cant find the answer.
They are both 37mm forks, so they should fit in my triples.
I just need to know if they will work with the lowers.

The 850 is virtually the same as the 1000, but there are a few differences.
The forks appear to be one area that is similar.
The inner tubes on the '79-'81 850G and the '80-'81 1000G are the same part number.
The outer tube is the same for the '80-'81 850G and 1000G.
The damper rod is the same for all the chain-driven 1000s, the '80-'81 1000G and the '80 850 G and GL.

I just compared the lower fork tubes on my wife's '82 850L and my '80 850G. Besides the forward location of the axle, the L forks are a couple of inches longer. The damper rod is a different part number from the L to the G, I am guessing that it might be a bit longer to compensate for the longer lower tube.

Yeah, you should be able to mix and match, just check all the movements and check for any binding before tightening everything back up.

Thanks very much for looking at that for me Steve.
Might be worth giving it a go.

What is the issue you are having, or in other words, why are you interested in swapping forks?

Mine are pitted, one of the members on your side of the water has a set he is willing to send me off an L.
Im just trying to get as much info as possible as not to waste his time and my money. If it works it will be much cheaper than doing anything with them here.
