progressive fork springs question
Ok everyone this is my first time playing with motorcycle suspension. I bought progressive suspension springs for my GS550. I removed the fork caps today and there's two springs inside. My question is do I replace both with the new one and make a spacer or just remove the lower one and cut down the upper? The spacer method makes it roughly 162mm to match the old length or 150mm to the top of the fork tube. Seems a bit extreme but I could be wrong.Tags: None -

Just follow the instructions that came with the springs. Too bad you didn't check this forum first before buying the springs. Sonicsprings.com is very popular here.Ok everyone this is my first time playing with motorcycle suspension. I bought progressive suspension springs for my GS550. I have been following the instructions I was just wary of adding a 6" PVC spacer. Maybe I'm just too nervous. We shall see what happens lol.Comment

A 6" spacer is nothing to be concern about. Enjoy your new springs.

Just make sure that you use schedule 40 PVC, the thicker walled stuff, and it will be just fine.'20 Ducati Multistrada 1260S, '93 Ducati 750SS, '01 SV650S, '07 DL650, '01 DR-Z400S, '80 GS1000S, '85 RZ350Comment

spacers and springs
Follow the above advice and get the thicker pvc, as Rich mentioned.
As I recall, on the last set of Progressives I used on a GS (850), years ago, I ended up with a 4 inch+ spacer with no problem.
Same with a couple other old bikes.
(For the past 10+ years, I have used straight-rate springs like the ones from Sonic or Race-Tech.)Comment
