Help a brother out here would ya??

Go ride the bike. If the shocks are bagged out and not working for you and your riding style then upgrade. I've known, believe it or not, to ride mine a bit aggressively from time to time and my old stock shocks work just. Remember back in the day these motorcycles were some of the best handling around. If the shocks haven't pucked anything out they should work just fine. Only way to tell if they work or not is to go ride it. Only way to tell if the new shocks work better is to figure out if the old shocks aren't doing the job.

Out of the box those shock aren't good. This guy http://chrislivengood.net/wp/ has the answers to making them better. The basic shock is good but no care and an oil like substance is used to fill them.Thinking if doing a set of RFY's for the 1000 and the GPz will defiantly need new shocks.

You can get Progressives for good prices off Amazon. That in the US though, not sure about up north.

You probably right Sandy...they are probably fine. No leaking. I just know then when I replaced the shocks on my 750 and 83 1100 the difference was huge, especially on the 1100. So I just assumed it would be a good thing to do. But with another $400 in parts for that bike showing up today..I'm done spending on it for a few weeks anyway. lol

Set the damper at 3 clicks and the springs at 2nd notch if you weigh under 200Lbs.

The damper is set at 3 and the springs are set at 5 the compressing the springs the most.

That must ride like a rock. Chef has some Works springs that he is selling cheap if they would work on those shocks.

I do like a stiff ride but did notice on the latest longer ride I took my tailbone was a little sore. Going to back off the springs a couple of notches and see how it is..
                          Thanks for the help Eric

To put things in perspective Trevor, I only set my spring pre-load to the third step when I am planning to jump my bikes or if my wife is on the back and we are going to be
doing some incredibly crazy things 2-up. Normally second step is good for me alone just being normal crazy or with the wife on a toned down a bit ride.
Combined we weigh just under 290 pounds.
