    GS1000G rear shock mounts

My GS1000G had a Givi rack on when I got it yesterday. I took it off, but find that the upper shock mounting studs are both shouldered and quite long, meaning the domed nuts I removed no longer clamp up.

What is the standard arrangement? Is there some sort of spacer between the shock eye and the nut, or is it a special, extra long nut? The shocks are original and the studs also look to be original.

I don't know what year your G is, but this will give you an idea of what is on either side of the upper shock section. Note the selection of washers aren't all the same - they vary in thickness and diameter (and even black vs chrome, from memory). Not having the grab handle on the left hand side will also upset the apple cart.

Thanks Seal, but this is no use to me as (a) I don't even know what year my bike was made and (b) I have no idea what the art number is for whatever part/s I'm needing!

Surely Suzuki produced parts books? Surely they're available somewhere (in UK hopefully)?

Well, you don't have much choice there.

They were only offered for the '80 and '81 model years, but the '80 production started in August or September of '79.

Except for paint colors and turn signal shape, the two model years were pretty much identical.

There is a stack of washers. Apparently Suzuki knows people like to use rear racks and such so the studs are sized accordingly. Just piece together a few washers until the acorn nuts snug up.

The usual arrangement is 2 or 3 washers with the big hole to go over the bigger part of the mount, then the shock, then 2 or 3 more smaller hole washers, then the acorn nut.
