    Maximum practical rim width on 1000C hubs

    Just acquired a set of spoked 1000C wheels cheaply with a view to putting 17' rims on them for a future project

    Ideally I'd like to mount a 160 rear and 120 front so I'd guess 4.5' rear and 3" front rim size

    Appreciate any comments on issues relating to the stock 1000C hub - obviously the 3" front will not fit into the stock front end, however, I'm planning on using a wider triple set with 1100E forks and a stepped top triple to offset loss in ride height

      Looking around - 4.25" seems to be the optimum rear rim size

          Some move the rear rim to the Front hub & then lace a new rear rim...

              If you want a 120x70x17 on front you'll need a 3.5 for optimum fit.
              A 160x60x17 would use a 4.5
              I have a 2.75X18 and a 3.5x18 set of Sun rims on my hubs.
              If you are planning on using 4 piston front calipers, you will need to space the rotors out, to keep the calipers out of the spokes.
