There are airbox parts on ebay. Search "gs1000 airbox." Question is whether or not the older '78 - '79 front airbox will fit if you open up the boot holes and install the later boots? The boots are available new still.

Weren't the OEM rotors marked "L" & "R", always figured just to make sure the slots, in the slotted rotors, were pointing the right direction. Never thought it would make any difference, other than appearance. Never noticed if the un-slotted rotors were marked "L" & "R" or not

The brake rotors have different numbers for left and right. The right is 59211-49250. The left is 59221-49250.

It was explained to me years ago by an oldtimer like this, as evolution :

solid discs had 3 issues : in the rain, water got trapped between pad and rotor
because it had nowhere to go.
And in dry weather under heavy use the disks could build up heat
                and start fading.
Plus, the old solid discs were very heavy. Unsprung weight influencing
                road contact.

Next up came the round holes, now water got trapped in the holes and
was expelled as soon as the hole was clear from the pad.
Less delay before the brakes react to rider input in the rain.
Same for air, while trapped in the hole between the pads it warmed up
and helped cooling of the disc.
                And lighter discs, improving handling.
                Plus, a coolfactor :-)

The slots were an improvement over the round holes.
Larger capacity to trap water and air/heat.
Plus, the way slots work if discs are mounted correctly,
water gets thrown "out and away" instead of being slung
inwards vortex-like where it might be re-introduced to the brake system.
And even less weight means better handling.

New slot style 3.0lbs vs old garage race bike style 3.4lbs. Can't say it really saves weight... Have 2 of the old styles for sale?

Trevor, don't forget to try ebay.UK as well, plenty of airbox stuff on there as well.
If you need the clamps for the rubber boots from airbox to carb, buy the ones for the GL model as they still have the proper machine threads not just self tapper screws made from cheese, part number 4 X 09402-62208.

LOL ofcourse .. comparing factory slots with ... something else.
                      Don't know if that's a good comparison.

But since you're going that way : rule of thumb is that unsprung vs sprung weight
is a factor 10 so .4 lbs makes the factory slotted discs 4 lbs lighter
effectively as far as handling is concerned.
So the factory slotted discs would be superior.

Thanks for the laugh i got out of that

My bad. I read the PN too quickly. There are RH and LH rotors.
