What is widest tire I can run on a 77 gs400
Yes wanting to know what is the widest tire I can run on a 77 Suzuki gs400 (rear tire)? ThanksTags: None -
The rim is a 1.85 so max size is a 110, and that's pushing it.Ed

What came as OEM? Why deviate much from that?
Ed, a 110 on a 1.85" rim seems very large to me.

A 110 will be one size up from orig., should work fine. Hey Chris, OH boy, another Tennesseean, just be aware bigger isn't necessarily better for bike tires.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. ZRX 1100Comment

Many Kawasaki KZ bikes came stock with 120 tires on a 2.15 rear wheel. Some guys, particularly around here, would say you can't use a tire that big on that size wheel.Last edited by Nessism; 07-30-2020, 06:18 PM.Ed

Years ago, before I was a GSR member. I wanted to put the largest rear tire and the skinniest front tire on my 81 1100e Maybe I was going for that dragster look. I don't know, I was just a young man with no business riding a 1100e in the first place. I screwed up the handling so much! Even going straight it was a handful! The front end was so twitchy and it was so unpredictable in the turns... I wouldn't change your tire size from factory stock "just for looks" you're asking for trouble. But anyway welcome to GSR. Tell us about yourself and your GS. 👍My Motorcycles:

I'm not good at math, so I just look it up on the charts. ,... 100/90= 3.25 to 3.50,... & 110/90 says 3.75 to 4.25. Not my fault if they did the charts wrong!!!1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. ZRX 1100Comment

The English sizes and the metric sizes don't match up exactly the way the math would have you believe. The nominal sizes don't really match up to the physical, mounted sizes and (I think) the disparity is greater with the English sizes.
In any case, I'd stick with the 100 if possible. As noted, wider is not always better, and is often worse.'20 Ducati Multistrada 1260S, '93 Ducati 750SS, '01 SV650S, '07 DL650, '01 DR-Z400S, '80 GS1000S, '85 RZ350Comment
