A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Unknown short, no power anywhere

Good for you. I generally add a few extra grounds. Does a 1982 still have the long stator wire toward the former headlight switch and back? I've taken to running the stator wires a lot farther to the R/R. I've just found too many dirty plug in connectors, and overheated burner bullet...

    About to purchase

I have a spare #14 joint. Later V twin cruisers used the same one it appears. They were once thin on the ground.

Oh yes. CVs too. I kind of like the light pull of a CV, but that 1980 petcock...

Nice job. It really looks great. I love my Nortons, but I think I'm over touring with them.

    Wheel Builders

I need to have a spoked wheel built. Rebuilt, really. I had it built with an early hub which has no cush drive in it. I want to replace it with a custom cush drive hub, which I have. The hub is made specifically for my motorcycle, a Norton Commando. Even with a cush drive, I sheared a...

1979 GS550e is now running but idles at 2500k What now?

I don't know if it is true for all, but 1979 seems the last year for slide carbs. On the Suzukis I have owned and have seen, 1980 have CV carbs. '79 and older have slide. The slide valve heads are different than the CV carb heads on the 850. Smaller intake ports in the casting. I have a...

    Bought another Bandit

I bought my nice 1967 Ford Cortina GT in North Vancouver. If the Ferry had been running I would have been to the island. Fiat 600. I drove an 850 Sport Coupe in the early 70s. Trailing throttle oversteer was fun. Every time I had 30 bucks in my pocket that car took it. 30 bucks was enough...

    OK what u think 1981 GS850G

Those have a plane bearing crankshaft, right? I've wondered if it stands up as well ad the ball bearing cranks the other GS Suzukis had at the time.

New bike in the garage...need a little help with what model it is....

You know in their day, those bikes were a revelation. The first big Japanese Superbike with good handling. Better than any other large Japanese bike at the time. In 1978 the GS1000E was considered to be the first good handling Japanese liter bike. That is a very nice looking example, I must say.

    Relay upgrades for '79 GS850G

I got a 1979 GS850 for free once. I was planning on buying it, then the seller thought he blew it up, and gave it to me for for when he was moving. It turned out that it had a bad coil and ran on two cylinders. It had a couple extra quarts of oil in it too. I switched some coils wires around...

Broken clutch cable on a group ride!

Most bikes with E start I've owned will take off in gear with the bike in first gear. The Trident did.

Broken clutch cable on a group ride!

The jacket was a Tourmaster. It was tough. It was completely ruined, but I would not have bet that a leather jacket could crush a cast iron disc and brake disc and rip both the cast iron lugs on the Girling brake caliper. The jacket when wrapped on the side of the brake and hub actually...

    Loaded question gs or cb

I've mostly stayed away from Hondas. I thought my stripped down CB160 with knobbies was badass when I was 14. Front wheel landing on every jump, ha ha. Got a CB550 in some trading deal in the 80s. I couldn't believe how slow and heavy the 550 was, and for me, really weird steering. Part of...

Broken clutch cable on a group ride!

In the early 80s, on my first coast to coast ride, I was in upstate New York ant thought I broke a clutch cable. I kept going but in Geneva, NY there was a little electrical fire. My heated vest wire got pinched and shorted to the frame. When stopped, I could see a hole in the clutch...
