I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi, need some rings for a UK 82 GS550ez. Any feedback on Cruzinimage rings? I ask because on a Honda CB forum there were experiences of cruzin rings having poor oil control on CBs Any recommendations for proven pattern rings? Thx

    gs550e CV carb float heights

Hi All My 1982 gs550ez runs well and goes ok but will not rev past about 7K. It doesnt mifire or misbehave just seems to hit its max revs well below the redline on the tacho. Whilst i was just trying to diagnose I noticed whilst reving it in nuetral to 7-8k it would hit 7-8k and then 'break...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

New coils fitted and original problem solved! Still need to look into voltage drops around fusebox and bypassed kill switch but thats a job for another day :) If it helps someone in future the summary is - 2 cases of coils failing on late GS550e when they get hot and stalling the engine on...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

Very strange, PO has made the join between the O/W and O so they no longer touch the handlebar switch. makes sense to bypass the kill switch but.... firstly there is still a .3v drop even though theres no switch in the circuit now and secondly the starter is still getting a feed from somewhere...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

Now I have the correct wiring diagram! Still have this mystery of an extra O/W wire in the switch loom connected into the handlebar switch which I suspect is powering the starter button. But it does not exit the loom! Weirdest thing I've seen as the loom 'looks' unmodified apart from the join of...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

So I now have another wiring diagram and it looks like the PO has used a UK 1981 550L right handlebar switch with 2 O/W wires and grafted a different connector plug on to fit my UK 1982 550E loom. Its a tidy job on the connector as it looks stock which doesnt match his other work! :) More...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

Regarding this extra wire, I had a look at the wiring diagram and it shows the 2nd O/W wire but it then "joins" it to Y/G (is this a relay or something?) As i said on my loom I only have one O/W terminating at the plug but there are 2 in the loom and the diagram shows them as both sides of the...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

thanks guys, really appreciate you taking the time. Hopefully all this detail might help someone else too. pdqford - im not familiar with trying to test the drop across the coil low tension (LT) positive to negative terminals but I thought I did what you said in previous post. I put the meter...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

Done some voltage drop testing today across the loom. Got the following drops - Battery to main fuse .3V (I think the main red wire in the fuse box seems to be the culprit so not easy to change without a new fuseholder) Main fuse to switch .2v Switch to igntion fuse .2v Ignition fuse to coils...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

Damn! Still have the problem. Went for a test ride and it was much better....for almost 40 mins before it died. The coil connectors were definately troublesome but not the whole story. Waited 15 mins and it started right up again. I kept it going to get home by keeping revs above about...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

My head hurts :) wouldnt you have to make sure the crank position is with the points/dyna 'closed' on dwell so there is a permanent ground?

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

Gorminrider - agree with all you say, thanks! Dyna is simple points replacement and is fine with OEM coils. BTW their support is second to none, really recommend them. pdqford - I had completely forgotten the old trick of using a strobe, manys the time 30 plus years ago I would drive around in a...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

Thanks for the replies all. So I think this is part 3 of this epic series :D More testing today and am now satisfied the battery is actually ok. I tried a known good more powerful battery and still had same problem. Charging is also good at 13.8 to 14.5Vs. So Im back to the coils and wiring...

GS550e "interesting" ignition problem - dies when coils are hot

So after charging battery I did some further testing today and it seems like my battery may indeed be on the low side. After charging yesterday I left it overnight and it had dropped to about 12.7V and quickly dropped to 12.5 after a couple of tests and cranks. Turning the ignition on drops it...
