I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

That's really interesting information, always useful to have some context. Sometimes working on these lovely old bikes is like being on an archaeological dig! Cheers AC

Mikuni VM26 Pilot Air Screw Access - to drill, or not to drill...

Thanks for the quick response! Well, that was close . That makes sense - the bike was a bit of a parts bin special when I got it. Also explains why gs1000 cables don't quite fit: the outers are always a few inches short. Given the above, I'll tune her up in the usual way...

Hello all & greetings from sunny Guernsey! I have a '79 GS Thou, which I'm running with foam pods, 4 into 1 pipe and LEDAR air corrector jets fitted. I'm looking to fine tune the fueling using my trusty color tune, and following some research on this awesome forum, it appears tge right way to...

Gs1000 engine rattle: cam chain or clutch?

https://youtu.be/QDDeW9VvdaI Yep, the starter clutch appears to be loose - heaps of play there. Can I access those bolts without pulling the rotor?

Gs1000 engine rattle: cam chain or clutch?

That's a fair point. The clutch was actually working fine, so I'm guessing there's enough oil getting in there. What are the symptoms of the clutch needle bearings wearing? And also, what is the significance of the tiny "cushion" part i see in the exploded parts diagrams for the gs1000e clutch?

    Engine noise!

Hi, I realise this is an old thread, but did you find a solution to your issue? I have a similar problem on my 79 gs1000e. There seems to be a fair bit of play in the clutch basket too, and a bad rattle. Not the cush springs on the clutch, had the falicon upgrades installed, and basket welded.

Gs1000 engine rattle: cam chain or clutch?

Thanks for all the responses! OK - so. Reset cam chain tensioner, no issues that I coukd see there. Popped the bike in gear, and rolled it back and forth. No movement in clutch. So have removed clutch core and basket. A fair bit of lateral play in the basket, so I think the needle bearing...

Gs1000 engine rattle: cam chain or clutch?

Here's a bit more: The rattle at around 3000 rpm: https://youtu.be/w8hzui-vODI at 28 seconds you can here the "buzz" really clearly. The rattle under load. Sorry, hated doing this video, felt like I was kicking a puppy: https://youtu.be/5NCNibeJpAU 13 secs, 28 secs and 33 secs. Sounds...

Gs1000 engine rattle: cam chain or clutch?

She is indeed a "walker", but this noise only happens on the overrun, or under load. In the clips, you hear the "vroom" as the revs increase, then a kind of "paaahhh" as the rattle kicks in as the throttle is closed. I'll take another vid and load it up shortly - thanks for your feedback Steve!

Gs1000 engine rattle: cam chain or clutch?

Hi all! My motor has developed a light rattle audible on the overrun and under load. I thought it maybe loose bodywork, however deffo sounds like it's coming from the engine. The carbs have been tuned and balanced, and apart from this noise, the bike runs beautifully. Opinions welcome...

What's that racket??? Metallic rattle 79 gs1000e. Cam walk or something more siniste?

Great! Its good to be part of the GS community. The marshall is quiet at tickover, howls when you gun the throttle! Thanks for the response Steve. Yep, I sorted the leak the other week - you have good ears! I won't worry about the cam walk sound, I understand short of machining up some spacers...
