A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    83 GS650GL ignition issue

The problem was the igniter. I sourced an old original and plug and play, runs super.

    83 GS650GL ignition issue

Unfortunately I narrowly missed out on a cheap parts bike recently for my 83 GS650GL and now am tempted to ante up for a GS650 shaftie ignitor (32900-34210). I've serviced the carbs to death (five times out total!) and then determined that failure to rev freely (above about 3-4K) is definitely...

83 GS650, fourth time carbs in!

thanks guys, yes it occured to me later that the "choke" test might not apply to this type of fuel enrichment starter system. Hoping for the best when new mains arrive. The slides look perfect and I don't see any scratchmarks or indication that the needles were mucked with but I ordered the long...

83 GS650, fourth time carbs in!

Unfortunately I already removed carbs again but should have tried a little "choke" when it was systematically bogging out when switching to mains I had tried the opposite because had tunnel vision thinking it was flooding out (tested with no air filter and open airbox which reproduced the "cut...

83 GS650, fourth time carbs in!

Interesting suggestion, I'll poke a stiff wire in there to try to check but tend to doubt it's the problem. I sourced the exhaust from a cycle salvage business and did notice there is some movement in one muffler, like a loose baffle. We decided it probably becasme dislodged in shipping. I know...

83 GS650, fourth time carbs in!

Bike is 100% stock, new airfilter, no air leaks anywhere. After a couple or three bouts of carb maintenance I had achieved a perfect low idle and no fuel or air leaks but had a wet plug or two and a cool pipe or two and not always the same ones, and bogging out after some good revs. I had tuned...

    1983 GS650 carb question

They definitely weren't in there; I'm sure I didn't lose 4 washers and 4 O-rings when cleaning, and I can see down in there. I'll have to source some washers to keep the springs from damaging the O-rings, but I don't think this is my problem now, which I've detailed in a separate post.

    1983 GS650 carb question

Hello my 1983 GS650 carbs are Mikuni CV type and according to factory manual are B32SS. Schematics I can source aren't great. There are no O-rings (or washers) on the fuel adjusting screws on mine and I am thinking there should be. There is just a spring on my fuel screws and I think I need...

    handlebar ends on '82 GS850G

Hi all I'll probably put a bar end mirror on (left side) but handlebar end is solid, just slightly recessed. Does anyone know if stock bar end is just a wall there or are there solid weights? I could drill and tap 10mm threads if it was thick enough. My end wall there has, let's call it a...

    '82 GS850G CDI compatability

Pardon me for referring to the ignitor as a CDI, as I have heard others do. Mine is an '82 and I don't see a mechanical advance down there behind the pick up coils. I was not asking if I could swap ignitors across different advance systems. First I will try to find a suitable ignitor...

    '82 GS850G CDI compatability

Does anyone know if slightly later CDI (e.g. from '83-85 GS500E) could be made to work well on my '82 GS850G? Part numbers are different but wire colours are same on diagrams and neither have mechanical advance. No need to respond "buy a Dyna"! Thanks in advance

    '82 GS850G project

Hey all I'm working on this daily. Not a perfect specimen as it caught a decade of outbuilding storage in Atlantic Canada, but there are clues that the bulk of her miles were well maintained. I'm trying to find an original style seat pan for it that will fasten right on, or something close to...

    '82 shocks compatability

I don't know, I'm picking up the 850 day after tomorrow; it's shocks don't look rusty, have 50K miles on them. 850 had a big old windjammer on it so I don't suppose my (front) fork coils are tired...guess I don't need these spares, just noticed them locally for sale
