DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Aftermarket Ignition fitted to GS650

I recommend this modification regardless of coils/ignition. With ~40 year old wiring I’ve seen as little as 9v at the coils, and a very weak spark at the plugs. After adding the relay, and essentially full voltage to the coils, you get a nice big fat blue spark!

    CV & VM O-ring Sources

No problem. With anything related to fuel, leaks are not something we want to worry about. Luckily the those rings are just a bit taller/fatter, so maybe they stretched out to about the same size and like you mentioned, they didn't seem over-stretched so hopefully you'll be ok - keep us posted...

While I didn't complete the cleaning/teardown and install of the eBay kit from the seller retro-motorcycles when I was visiting my kids, but I can confirm that while close, there are some differences in the sizes and thickness of the O-rings and even the tiny pilot (mixture) screw washer, but it...

    11EZ rear shock replacement

Another satisfied Ikon customer here, just replaced the 41 year old rears on my 81 GS850G, which look to be the same mode for an 1100, but the page I compared them on doesn’t list the 1100EZ specifically. 13” eye to eye - “Ikon Dial-a-Ride 7610-1418 Code 204 black springs tri-rated 18/25/33...

    CV & VM O-ring Sources

Good to know, sounds like eBay it is. I’m also curious if anyone else can confirm the right gaskets and o rings are in the K&L kit. My son in law’s 750T will need the carbs gone through soon enough so if I pick one up, I’ll circle back and update this thread. Thanks all!!

How to polish engine case on my GS

I wouldn’t try to remove the lens, just tape it off well with a couple layers of good tape. And I’ve personally reused clutch cover gaskets before, if they’re in good shape, but they aren’t expensive to replace… less than the oil you might potentially drain and replace if you reuse and then...

    CV & VM O-ring Sources

Guess I’ll need to read up on cycle orings being no more, I’m out of the loop on that one but always found Robert’s kits to be high quality, well put together and he was always helpful! Hope he’s on to bigger and/or better things, and glad to know there are some other options out there people...

    Driving through the winter

Those split mittens are pretty great, nice mod as well. As others have said, bundle up, but you still need to move, and yes rain gear is an essential, nice thing you have a short ride. I swear by good quality wool thermal long underwear and the frog toggs brand rain gear, and I got some cheap...

Tip on how to "easily" get your carb rack back into the boots

Agreed about the shafties being easier, not sure why but also not complaining!

What have been your experiences with aftermarket voltmeters ?

I tried one of those cigarette lighter voltmeters thinking the same thing, how convenient... I can move it around between my cars, truck and bikes but it was horribly inaccurate. Granted, it was a few dollars and would at least show you variation from one day/minute to the next but it just sits...

What have been your experiences with aftermarket voltmeters ?

Nope, that?s the highway dirt bikes top clamp specific to my bike to accommodate the Scott?s steering stabilizer and optional switch kit. It connects to my hand guards at the bar ends and has sweet little fold out highway mirrors - super solid setup from a Colorado based small business...

What have been your experiences with aftermarket voltmeters ?

Agree with the comments about using it as a reference, it’s more important to be able to monitor a change than it is to know accuracy in my opinion. If you need accuracy get something more expensive otherwise get one of these cheapies like mentioned on eBay above which is exactly what I did on...

    T-Nation Thread (My 2nd Thread) 3rd Overall (I think)

Yes, nice indeed. I prefer to keep mine as stock as possible, but I like the bobbed fenders and the styling with bar end mirrors, smaller LED signals and tail and have couple of bikes that I bought “mid restoration” in pieces that I may do something similar with one day. I suppose I’ll do...

    GS850 Starter Replacement

93Bandit, this forum is the best there is for these bikes and you’ve got some great advice from some great members here, just take your time and do things right. The maintenance on these bikes isn’t difficult but neglect will take its toll, so stay on it and you’ll be fine. As Steve mentioned...
