DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Post GS750 > 844 Build Plug Fowling

Resolved! It was clearly running overly rich and so I thought I'd see what happened if I removed the vacuum line to give it more air. After a quick ride around the block - it ran great, but when I returned there was gas all over my airbox. On further inspection, there's gas leaking out of the...

    Post GS750 > 844 Build Plug Fowling

I swapped the #2 and #3 plug wires again just to double check and regardless of which wire is going to the #3 cylinder, that's the one that is not firing (pipe doesn't get warm on cold start). When I pull the plug wire it has a really strong spark arcing to the engine just between the cap or if...

    Post GS750 > 844 Build Plug Fowling

Hmm - thought I had ruled that out by switching out the #2 and #3 plug wires. If it were bad spark, the fowled plug would follow the wire to the #2 cylinder, but after flipping the wires it stays on #3. I did also swap the #1 and #3 plugs (i.e. to put a "good" plug in #3) with the same result...

    Post GS750 > 844 Build Plug Fowling

Hey folks, been a while since I've posted and I've got some background info for an issue I'm currently having so bear with me. Back in 2022 I moved away for a year with my job. Right when I left my GS750 started running poorly, with smoke in the exhaust and poor, lurchy acceleration. When I...

    77 GS750 <> 82 GS650G Fork Lower Swap

Alright I got it out. The 650 fork tube has a sleeve with a larger OD then the tube itself. To remove the fork tube, you have to pull the oil seal spring clip and retainer and then basically use the whole fork tube as a slide hammer to bash out the seal with the sleeve. As for the fork tube...

    77 GS750 <> 82 GS650G Fork Lower Swap

Looking again with fresh eyes this morning, in the diagram for the GS650G, there's a collar that goes around the lower fork tube. Could that be getting stuck on the fork seal that I haven't removed yet?

    77 GS750 <> 82 GS650G Fork Lower Swap

Alright so I figured I would just go for it and went ahead and bought the GS650G forks. I started taking them apart and am embarrassed to say I'm running into an issue on disassembly. In the picture below, I have my disassembled GS750 fork. To get to this point, I broke the bottom hex bolt...

I need help selecting new handlebars and generally with my riding posture

DCC/Z1 also sells a pair of "stock replica" XS650 bars that I like the look of with the following specs: Dimensions: Width: 29" Rise: 6.5" Pullback: 4" Center: 5.25" The problem I've been having is that there's only one "rise" measurement of 6.5 inches. The Daytona bars on the other hand have...

I need help selecting new handlebars and generally with my riding posture

Wow I've never seen that tool before, primitive but pretty cool. I hadn't really considered the risers since I don't like how they look but maybe I'll get a 2" set and give 'em a chance while I hunt for other bars. I've been asking around the local moto scene and shops to see whose got 7/8 sets...

I need help selecting new handlebars and generally with my riding posture

My GS750 came with some huge wacky cruiser bars that I immediately replaced with a set of Emgo "Daytona Touring" bars when I bought it. I rode from MA to CA and back on those bars and still have them installed. Over the past few years, I've come to realize that they're probably not ideal for me...

    77 GS750 <> 82 GS650G Fork Lower Swap

I'm gathering parts for a twinpot brake upgrade on my '77 GS750 and am trying to find fork lowers with caliper brackets on both sides. Dual caliper GS750 forks are apparently hard to come by on ebay so I'm looking into forks from an '82 GS650G. Comparing the two sets, the most obviously visual...

    Appropriate pricing for a 79gs1000e

I don't buy the "it's not worth more than $500". Sure, if you run in some motorcycle circles and know people who consistently come by bikes but the world of craigslist/facebook market place that many people (myself included) end up scouring is different. Everything is worth different amounts to...

Best possible relay for coil relay mod?

I did the coil relay mod to my GS750 when I first got it in 2016 with a generic four pin relay from advanced auto or something similar. Five years and 25,000 miles later, it failed this summer, which took about a minute to diagnose when I didn't hear the relay clicking when toggling the kill...

Tapered steering bearings for 1979 GS750

I disassembled my friends steering column to regrease some partially seized or at least dragging ball bearings. I didn't realize they didn't have a cage and ended up spending half an hour trying to find the one I dropped! Made a huge difference once back together though. Could you feel a...

Tapered steering bearings for 1979 GS750

From what I've seen, the race is press fit in to the steering stem and you can knock it out to accept new bearings. Is this the kit you're looking at: https://www.allballsracing.com/steering/99-3515-5.html
