A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Digital gear position ideas?

Yeah, I had a GT380 in 1982 that had a single digital display. The GT380 was a 3 cylinder 2 stroke. The plastic used on the clocks then were prone to cracking due to sunlight.

    1981GS650GL Swingarm question

yep, thats what I used and it's been ok for about 3 years, may not last as long as a Suzuki one if you ride in the rain a lot as it's not got a rubber seal on.

    1981GS650GL Swingarm question

Not 100% certain as it's a while since I changed mine but I reckon you are looking for a taper roller bearing 30202. You can get one from a bearing supply store for next to nothing. If you get the Suzuki part it is very expensive. Although the Suzuki bearing does have a rubber seal (which makes...

I reckon the exhaust ports are smaller on the 650 engine.

Transmission issues please help me gs gods!

My GS650 Katana had 2 oil drain bolts. Apparently the one in the sump does not drain all oil out so Suzuki had to fit a 2nd one. If you check the fiche diagrams, you'll find that there are 2 drain bolts from engine number 122596.

    Valve Clatter?????

Yep, I've got same noise on my 81 1000G. I've tried everything, only makes the noise when the bikes hot and under load. Doesn't sound like "pinking", bike pulls like a train and noise disappears about 3000 rpm.

    Powder coating

As you are in the UK I would get it powder coated and use these guys. http://www.triple-s.co.uk/ They are the best in the UK and they do all the masking etc. for you. They are more expensive then the others out there but you pay for quality.

    Progressive install, little help please.

They did in the UK - they are 4 position adjustable on the springs with no air valve.

Rear light likes to be "locked up"

If its the same as UK bikes then you have 4 positions, from left to right - Lock, Off, On, Park. Lock, locks the bike Off, obvious On, Go Park should lock the bike and switch front and rear side lights on.

Where are the coils on a 550 katana?

Here's a picture of a GS650. The coils on the 550 kat are in the same position and both bikes use the same tank. On a 550 the coils are fitted the other way round - the HT lead comes out the front of the coil unlike the 650 where they come out of the rear.

    I'm hurt, I thought I kept mine clean :-

GS650G Katana exhausts. Which will fit?

I'm pretty sure that only 650 pipes will fit due to the header size.

    Shaft swingarm bearing replacement

I've just remembered, I only changed the shells because I was having the swingarm powder coated. To be honest if I was just changing bearings i wouldn't have changed the shells (unless they looked dodgy). You are right about the rubber sealed bearings. I looked all over and only Suzuki...
