A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    82 1100Ez rebuild

Got the frame almost stripped and the engine cracked open, #3 cylinder is gouged pretty good from frozen rings. All the other cylinders are undamaged, gotta get the carbon off the pistons and disassemble valves and make sure everything is good. I'd love to go oversize 1mm (as long as the wall...

    82 1100Ez rebuild

Well, the heat finally got me. Shouldve bit the bullet and installed that oil cooler but here we are, going to use this thread to track my rebuild progress. #3 cylinder piston rings overheated and are letting blowby to the chamber. heavy smoke once warmed up and signs of detonation coming out...

82 1100 White smoke at high RPM

After some diggin in the forums, common issues seem to be posting rings letting oil into the chamber or valve stem seals. im going to do a compression test later today and I just did my valve clearances last week, however I did not check seals so I suppose being under the cover could’ve...

82 1100 White smoke at high RPM

1982 gs1100E 17k mi for the first time today I noticed at the top half of the rpm range-ish, I had some white smoke coming out of my exhaust. It was intermittent, not constantly coming out. in my experience white smoke is either water or unburnt fuel the bike has never done this and I’ve...

    Bad petcock?

Well folks, after all that nonsense i did have vacuum at the port on the #2 carb, however it was partially blocked by a little piece of something. i ran some safety wire/lock wire through to port and ran it for a few minutes in ON, worked like a charm. its always the easiest fix i guess, still...

    Bad petcock?

about the only thing i can imagine as well. might have to just bite the bullet and pull the carb again to make sure that port is clear, if not get another new valve and try

    Bad petcock?

Well i replaced the line with another brand new thicker walled line and still no luck. Im definitely running lean but since its running fine in prime i dont think that would change at all. Maybe its lean enough where the vacuum just isnt pulling quite enough to keep it alive? besides that other...

    Bad petcock?

UPDATE changed the petcock with a brand new OEM one, and seemed to work great. tested it and then installed and rode perfect for 30-40 mile commute. 12 hrs later (albeit in pretty cold temp about 35 degrees) started right up but about 5 miles down the road started starving. made sure i still...
