A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

GS400 Contact cover doesn’t fit after Boyer install

I’m finally putting the bike back together after installing a Boyer ignition, but I didn’t realize the contact cover wouldn’t fit with the new ignition until I snapped a screw and cracked the cover. The bolt sticks out to far. Does anyone know how to make it work or if there’s a deeper cover...

Need help with GSX400 cam timing

Hey guys, I’m working on checking the timing on my 1980 GSX400E and could use some advice. The manual says that at TDC, the inlet camshaft “3” arrow is supposed to be angled, and the exhaust camshaft “2” arrow should be vertical. On mine, both arrows are vertical. There are exactly 20 pins...

1980 GSX400 - Still Stuck at 7k RPM After More Work

Brand New Boyer, I’ve talked to boyer when installing it to make sure everything was right. Kit 00291. It’s weird cuz when it hits 8000-8500RPM not under load it just stays there as if it was the a rev limiter. And then when its under load it barely wants to get up to 7000rpm. I soaked the air...

1980 GSX400 - Still Stuck at 7k RPM After More Work

1980 GSX400 - Still Stuck at 7k RPM After More Work

I’m still dealing with the same issue on my 1980 GSX400—it won’t rev past 7,000 RPM under load, and it’s hard to even get up to 100 km/h. This bike was my dad’s, and it sat for 15 years before I got it running again last August. Everything on it is stock, and here’s what’s been done so far: •...

    GS400 Boyer Ignition Timing

Hey everyone, I just finished installing a Boyer kit on my Suzuki GS400, but I’m stuck on how to set the timing. The stator plate has a hole for the strobe light on the right side, but the timing marks on my bike are on the left. I need to line it up to TDC first and then check the full...

Boyer vs Dynatek ignition system? 1980 Suzuki GSX400

Hey guys, I’m trying to decide between Boyer and Dynatek ignition systems for my ’80 Suzuki GSX400E which has the stock points system with no igniter box and the condensers are attached to the coils. I could use some input. I’m in Canada, and the options I’m looking at are 1. Boyer Kit00291 –...

Big Bore or Piston Options for 1980 Suzuki GSX400E

It sat for 15 years and it’s got 23,000km/14,300 Miles. Seems like the compression should be higher with that low of miles. I’ll give the marvels a go.

Big Bore or Piston Options for 1980 Suzuki GSX400E

Hey guys, I’ve got a 1980 Suzuki GSX400E (DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder), and I’m planning on replacing the piston rings since my compression is at 125. I figured while I’m in there, I might as well upgrade the pistons too. Problem is, there aren’t any piston kits available for this bike, so I’m...
