    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi Folks,

The OEM starter clutch in my GS1150 is in need of repairs for the usual suspects however, rather than install a replacement aftermarket (seems OEM are NLA) starter clutch kit I was thinking about a retrofitted sprag starter. The FBR Shop at one time supplied sprag conversion starter clutch kits for the GS1150 but it seems they are no longer trading going by their website.

Does anyone know of a replacement sprag starter conversion kit from anywhere else?

Hi Katana 1074, thanks for the link to Centurion Motorcycles. They provide the starter clutch upgrade by upgrading the owners OEM starter unit after it has been sent to Centurion. Yeah, shipping there and back will not be cheap but I will look into it as an option if Plan A falls over. Plan A would be to see if the lighter sprag starter clutch and flywheel from a GSX-R 600 could be modified to suit the GS1150 tapered shaft. I know its been done however, finding who does the engineering for it is the issue right now.

GSXR600 flywheel has been done, seem to recall a thread on oldskoolsuzuki.info, but looking at either option aint gonna be cheap,

I was quite tempted to get my 1229 efe done, but it needs new valves, guides and rocker arms, Centurion Motorcycles is about 30 miles from me, However I bought another 1100 efe, so its been put on the back burner, (and my missus would kill me) :eek:

which ever you decide to do keep posting the updates,

As you can tell, I have a real soft spot for Kat`s and efe`s

Hi Roy,

The 1074 in our Avatar is a clue to us being Kat fans eh? My stock Kat 1100 I have owned since 6 Sep 1986 and it is still on the road. The factory Kat that never was is of course a Kat with an EF engine. Couldn't buy one from Suzuki so I followed the well worn path and built my project Kat with the EF engine, a mod I should have done years ago when there were plenty of EF engine available.

Yeah, I have read the post on "Old School" about the GSXR 600 conversion, will read it again to help me understand what is needed for the job. Used the flywheel nut best friend today, a rattle gun! Thankfully the crank taper and flywheel taper are not damaged so it hasn't spun up and welded itself to the crank, not good when that happens!

One of the rollers has kicked back and chipped the roller housing shoulder and also damaged the roller outer edge and pushed out the roller retaining plate about 1.5 mm. causing it to lightly score the ring gear.

For the short term to stay mobile, I could tidy up the roller dings, tap the retainer plate flat and reassemble the starter clutch.

Long term there are a few options:

Replace the OEM unit with a good condition used one.

Try the GSX-R 600 starter clutch mod.

Go with the Centurion option and have the flywheel turned down to remove a few hundred grams.

Some thinking to do over the next few days.

I was 14 back in 1986 lol, I hadn't even thought about motorcycles, I rode a mates off-roader twice...

My very 1st bike was an old Suzuki GP100 2 stroke back in 1996, which was a cheap way to get to work lol

I Then progressed through the ranks with bigger and bigger bikes until I got my Kat 1100 back in 2001

Fair bit of damage there, but like you said there`s no damage to the crank and flywheel taper that's the main thing,
I dread to think what my 1229 efe starter clutch is like, As its kicked back a lot of times over the years,

I did try the wiring mod to the left switch, which did work but didn't like the idea of being able to spin the motor

without the key in lol

Its the Joy of increasing the compression ratio 9.7.1 to 10.25:1

Out of your three options I'm liking the Centurion option the most, I don't think replacing with Oem is an option to be honest,

As you will end up back in the same predicament again, and going the Gsxr600 route will probably cost just as much as the Centurion part...

Iam feeling the pain, and the anger hearing your Kat was stolen, lowlife swamp scum!

Man oh Man, your EFFY looks amazing, the USD front and 6 pots are a serious mod and suit the bike very well, Is that a 17" front wheel and a JMC swinger?

My EF Kat has an 1197 kit which is mild with 10:1 compression to keep it streetable and keep the stock liners. I have contacted Centurion today with a few questions regarding the starter clutch conversion and depending on the answers, I will give their upgrade a go. Postage is painful at about AUD $ 150 each way.

The Effy had good bones, but was badly put together...

In short order:

New OEM wiring harness (as every wire was cut 2 inches from the end of each connector) !:poop:
New CDI (old owner killed the old one with the OEM rectifier)
New Rectifier (Sh775)
New Suzuki fuel cap
New Suzuki bar ends
New top and bottom yokes and bearings
New clutch basket
New clutch inner
New steel Suzuki clutch plates
New Suzuki clutch fibres
New Suzuki clutch springs
Bandit 1200 coils and wires
High volume oil pump gears (a mod which I would highly recommend you do) from gs750
Bandit 650 master cylinder (gives you 5/8 master cylinder bore for the 6 pots)
new stainless pistons and seals for the rear calliper
New seals in the front calliper's
New fork leg lowers (ouch)
New fork seals
New fork bushes
New rear wheel axle - as the old one was to short ffs ( thanks to my mate Alfie):cool:
New front and rear wheel bearings
New rear wheel spacers (thanks again to my mate Alfie)
New gear linkage pivot shaft out of super duplex (thanks again to my mate Alfie)
Countless titanium bits
Phew......

Don't think I'd get anywhere near 197kg, I'm down to 221kg from 256kg fully laden with old fattie

I always thought wiseco kits were 10.25:1 lolol

hopefully Centurion motorcycles come back with the right answers to your questions

its expensive but worth it, keep me posted how it goes, If you do decide to go with them (I May Have a ride up there)

Brian from Centurion has got back to me and we're good to go for the conversion, once the parts arrive he said he should have the job done in a week. I'll pack up the parts and have them in the Express Post ASAP, now where did I see that offer for a kidney?

Mailed the EFFY starter clutch today. Was advised the Express Postage should see it arrive in the U.K. in about five days however, the delivery time from when it is processed by Customs to Brian receiving it is the great unknown.
