    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you're going aftermarket, the key dimension will be 44mm ctr-ctr (Ed. corrected from 46mm) for the mounting bolts. If a project needs replacement petcock, I prefer aftermarket so I can ditch the vacuum activated petcock's. Here's one example, but I can't speak to it's quality...

    Critter nest completely filled the airbox and made it's way into the carbs. Hopefully it just left dirt and not corrosion in the venturi area of carbs 1 & 4. Will know more after ultrasonic cleaning.

    while we're on the topic of ultrasonic cleaning, there are lots of different views on the best cleaning solution. Pine sol, simple green, dawn, etc. My current favorite is 1/3 Berryman's B12 carb cleaner and 2/3's water. Works great and doesn't damage or discolor carb bodies as some cleaners...

    Initial tear down & cleaning progressing normally. here's the obligatory critter nest in the airbox. Unfortunately they also chewed through part of the air filter holder/frame, so I'll have to find a replacement or fab something.

    To rule out a few obvious things ... is the bike fully warmed up when you notice this? Did you leave the choke on for a while to get it fully warmed up? If this is your first carb'd/vintage bike, they can take a lot longer to warm up than modern fuel injected bikes. I've had this happen on past...

    UPDATE - I decided to rescue the 650GL. Once I get it home I'll see what's really left underneath the crusty surface, get the engine running, then decide if I swap any better condition parts from the 550T. Stay tuned.

    Looked at the 650GL today, and it's pretty crusty. Getting to a final decent bike would require pulling the engine and major paint work to the frame.
