A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Gs650 81 to 82 carbs interchangeable?

I expect it will be a easy swap since they all use the Mikuni BS32SS. I recently mated carbs 1&4 from an '81 with carbs 2&3 from an '83. They are not mounted on the bike yet for a test start (hopefully today), but I expect it will work fine. This link provides info all the compatibility...

GS650 carbs - are they corroded beyond repair?

Photo below provides even more data on just how STUCK the slides are. Time for destructive options which hopefully won't damage the carb body

    shim club

Online prices aren't crazy these days. I bought a few 25mm's from 4into1 for $8 each. Not bad if you know the sizes and only need a few. Also don't recall if that is the Suzi size or if it was for a different project.

swap front ends from GS550T to GS650L - any concerns?

Thanks. I'll add that technique to the list of options.

    can i swap handlebar controls between '81 GS550T and 83 GS650L?

I looked in the buckets this afternoon. Doesn't look like an easy swap since the #, color, and maybe the types of connectors are different. Thankfully, both buckets appear to be unmolested (or at least carefully placed back into the original position) over 40+ years of previous ownership. Since...

swap front ends from GS550T to GS650L - any concerns?

yep, sure enough the mounting rubbers for the 650L tank are >1" further back in the frame than those for the 550T tank. That section of the frame is the same for both bikes and you can see where they have two sets of positioning holes for the various tank/fork options. The forks probably would...

    can i swap handlebar controls between '81 GS550T and 83 GS650L?

thanks. Google only returns hits for GS1000L when mentioning self cancelling signals, so I assume not. I'll open the headlight buckets to see if the connectors are the same.

    can i swap handlebar controls between '81 GS550T and 83 GS650L?

As my 650 resurrection continues, I'm considering swapping the handlebar controls between the '81 550T and '83 650L. The 550's controls are in better shape and my end game is to have the 650 be in the best shape possible, even if both bikes end up being frankenbikes. Before I spend hours...

    CV & VM O-ring Sources

Some of his descriptions were incomplete. For example, the intake orings are listed for the GS550, but not the GS650 even though partzilla shows the same part number used for both models. I didn't get into material or hardness, just take my chances.

I just did. $25 for the carb & intake orings. Will report back once they arrive.

    CV & VM O-ring Sources

FYI buying in bulk may see some delays these days. Grainger quoted Feb for delivery of some I need and the O-ring store mentions similar supply chain delays.

    Mikuni BS32ss oring list

Thanks. My fuel T is rubberized, so no orings. Still feels rubbery, not hardened, so I plan to re-use.

    Mikuni BS32ss oring list

Here's the table as I've collected from the various sources. The only remaining gap is the air vent T's which are close to the fuel transfer tubes in size and don't seal any fuel, so precision isn't as important. Item Qty Size AS568 size Intake manifolds 4...

GS 550E 1978 starter motor parts

this thread might help. Stockers delivered parts quickly for my rebuild. Had to adjust a few things as noted. https://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?262413-gs550t-with-likely-dead-starter-preferred-replacement

Perfect, thanks. The link provided earlier seems to have been edited, which makes sense since the poster seems to be going thru some health issues.

    Mikuni BS32ss oring list

Is there a definitive list of oring sizes needed for rebuilding a Mikuni BS32ss from a GS650/GS550? I've looked but haven't been able to find it. My hard parts are all pretty good (except for bodies mentioned in other threads), so I'm trying to buy just the needed orings. I like to buy in bulk...

swap front ends from GS550T to GS650L - any concerns?

It's mainly three things, two of which are cosmetic: 1. The 650 forks have some rust spots that may have damaged the sliders in areas that will go past the seals. I haven't spent enough time with them yet to know if it is fixable. 2. I've already polished the forks lowers on the 550T, so they...

GS650 carbs - are they corroded beyond repair?

For posterity, below is the list of techniques for freeing the slides that have been tried so far with no luck: 1 ultrasonic with water & dawn 2 ultrasonic with witches brew of berryman's b12 carb cleaner, seafoam, and a little simple green 3 ultrasonic with PB blaster 4 Crock pot with water &...

swap front ends from GS550T to GS650L - any concerns?

Thanks. I hadn't considered clearance between the T tank and L forks, but will check that. Should be fine the other way around, T forks on L tank.
