A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    GS850G Handlebars

The bars on my bike (1980 GS850G) as purchased are 28-1/2" or 720mm wide from tip to tip. I suspect this may not be as per original as they even look a little narrow for the bike. Can anyone assist with an original dimension?

    1980 GS850G Instrument panel

Having just finished (well I thought I had) a rebuild of my 1980 GS850G I find that the current standard of the instrument cluster is letting the bike down so I would like to smarten it up. I have seen new labels on Ebay but wonder about the quality. Do they go inside the glass cover or just...

    Where did this come from?

AZR: Many thanks. I placed it up against the helmet holder and it looks like it might go there so you may well be correct. However I just cannot yet fathom how it attaches. Given time it will sort out. I thank others who responded and definitely bot from stator area.

    Where did this come from?

I am at the final stages of re-assembling my GS850 which was a basket case. I have a clip in left over bin that I cannot identify. Does it even come from this bike and if so where? See photo.

    Blockage in Mikuni bowls

I am currently working on carbs (and other stuff) from 2 GS850 bikes each with Mikuni 32mm carbs. The carburettor tutorial made available through GS resources has been much appreciated and valued. However, I have 4 bowls that fail the "spray through test" described in the tutorial. GS850G Steering stops???

thanks only7bikes: I appreciate time taken in responding. As I now have the basic engine back in the frame and wiring room roughly laid in I will just proceed with assembly and see if I come up with a use. If not I will just accept that they are holes and nothing more.

    GS850G Steering stops???

Thanks geol: No the holes are not for horns as they mount above cam cover right at front of the bike. I am starting to thinks that are just holes and not for any real purpose. Your response is greatly appreciated

    Gas tank rescue

Simple white vinegar worked very well indeed for me. Tank was left for 2 - 3 weeks and was then shining inside compared to the rust that I started with. You need to be patient but it worked great.
