A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Header flange clamps bent

I have this on my SuperTrapp. I just can't figure a way to bend them back. And what will stop them bending again if I did.

Feeler Gauge Wont Go Through Cam Lobes

I read recently, that it's quite acceptable to skim the ends of the valve stems, to shorten them and make it less necessary to find the unobtainium thin shims. I'm thinking to have all mine skimmed, as the head is apart, then I can use up my box of thick shims and have some play available for...

Rebuilt Carbs / Smoke From Exhaust

Are you sure the white smoke isn't steam. In the damp climate of the UK, I literally have steam and water dripping out of mine. But it takes the exhausts and mufflers at least 10 minutes to heat up enough to evapourate it. Also why they always rot from the inside out.

Pilot screw spring (idle mixture spring)

If one of the tips of the needle is flat, it has most probably broken off. They usually end up stuck on the pilot hole in the carb body. Make sure the tips are not still in there and replace any broken needles.

Charging is Perfect - with only 2 poles from the stator connected

GS1100G. Yes, these are all regulator/rectifiers. One unit. I'm thinking someone has messed with the headlamp loop.

Charging is Perfect - with only 2 poles from the stator connected

Yes, that's very interesting. The third phase only came on if the headlamp was running and the battery would still charge with only 2 phases if the headlamp was turned off. That makes total sense. The emf thing makes sense too. Take a look at this video. Voltage fluctuates according to which...

Charging is Perfect - with only 2 poles from the stator connected

I'm testing with 3 different and new Sindengen OEM style rectifiers that all test good when testing the diodes. Yes all my earths, including from the battery box, end up on the solenoid plate, except for the engine earth direct to battery terminal. Yes, high charging has to be the rectifier. I...

Charging is Perfect - with only 2 poles from the stator connected

How many charging issues can there be? GS1100G with new battery, new stator and at least 3 extra earth loops from battery holder and rectifier to battery negative. All combinations of stator output are in the 70-90 volts A/C range, depending on rpm. I've tried 3 rectifiers and they all give me...

    1981 GS1000ET in the UK.

Hi, just found this thread. I live 500 metres from Robinsons! Good job on the bike so far. If you ever get stuck for anything, I have a load of Suzuki parts, carbs, ultrasonic and so on - mostly for GS1100G and GSX1100EFEs but you never know. Greetings Richard CT2 7QP

    GSX1100EF 1985 Compression Help!

I would get the bike going and go for a spirited run for at least an hour, taking it up to maximum revs. Come back and redo the compression test. Make sure you do it with with the throttle fully open, engine hot and the other plugs out. You might just find that it has come good.

Sins of the PO and reflections of a newb carb rebuilder of a BS32ss 1980 gs850gl

Be sure to indentify the jets correctly. If the PO put in the DynoJet jets, they have a different numbering system than Mikuni jets. You really want to go back to stock sizes using Mikuni jets. You can identify these as they are market with a square next to or near the jet size marking.

1982 1100g stock ignition rev limiter?

I would take it to a mechanic who can rig up a test wire on the HT lead to analyse the correct rpm figure. That way you know for sure that what you are measuring in correct. (remember it's a wasted spark system so it fires every 360 deg) To measure is to know - but you need an accurate...
