A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Your pic looks odd. Where is the clutch basket? The rivets hold the clutch basket on.

    Carb issue

Take the fuel hose and vacuum hose off the petcock. Open the petcock in the prime position and check fuel runs out. Put the petcock in the on position and check there is no fuel coming out of the vacuum hose. Flooding on one cylinder (if it's flooding on no. 2 - I can't see anywhere that you...

    1 cyliners not working

Once you have eliminated electrics, start on the carbs. When were they last stripped and cleaned? Gummed up carbs will cause problems. A blocked jet will also cause that. So will: - incorrect float height (floods float bowl) - leaking needle valve (floods float bowl) - leaking needle valve...

Facebook Groups for Suzuki GS Owners

The weaving loom was once lambasted for taking away jobs from the cottage weavers ... If anyone is interested in the generation below ours (if we are the 60 plus age range) and doesn't want biking to die out, then I'm afraid Facebook (love it or loathe it) is the only way to go. Yes, the forum...

Engine surge when throttling off, electrical?

Surging like that is almost always associated with a lean condition. Unless it is jetted incorrectly to cause the condition (which you should check), the most likely causes are an air leak somewhere. As has been said, usually on the carb manifolds. Test this be spraying WD40 on the carb...

Clutch chatter and poor low end performance.

Care: Dynojet numbers and Mikuni numbers cannot be compared. They are not using the same measurement system. I would tend to stick with the Dynojet product as you have non-standard pods and pipes.

Seized primary gear on clutch hub (GS 1000 ST)?

Never seen that riveted plates thing before but all my bike are 1983 onwards. Might have been in earlier models. Have you checked the parts fiche on line. I'm taking a guess but it was probably to pack out the hub.

Seized primary gear on clutch hub (GS 1000 ST)?

When you say the primary gear did not move against the springs ... Me experience is that you will never be able to move that primary gear against the springs once the clutch has come off the bike. I remember the first time I took a clutch off and examined the primary gear and hub. It was...

Cylinder bores dropped out while heat curing engine paint.

First thing to do is to get them off that top and out of the kitchen before you are discovered! That would give you a proper heart attack. Get them slid back in properly and you should be good.

    Missing Carb part

If it's there on the other 3, you should plug that somehow or you may find the fuel leaking out of the bowl. In later model carbs, these holes were permanently filled.

What is this Passage in the Vacuum Chamber of the CV Carbs?

I believe it's stopped off down inside the hole. It was drilled out to create the passage for the pilot fuel feed to the top half of the carb and ends up providing the fuel which is metered by the screw needle pin on the top. Look at the passageway sideways on and you will see where it then...

Soda Blasting and then Flitz Polish

Yes some people polish up the engine side covers and even the engine top cover (cam cover), in which case Flitz would probably do a good job. The engine cases, the barrel and the head would benefit from either: 1. Vapour blasting and leaving as is or 2. Other types of blasting (grit, soda...

Soda Blasting and then Flitz Polish

What do you mean by "finish"? Show us a pic of your engine. Does it have paint or laquer on it? Soda blast is not very aggressive, you may need to vapour blast to get it back to an original type metal finish. If you do that, no polishing is required. It will look good for ever.

Hard welded rockers for mild 1100 cam?

The cam followers/rockers on all of these engines are quite susceptible to wear, especially if they have been abused and had poor or no oil. Any performance cam with a more aggressive profile, would add to the pressures that these things endure. They are hardened at the factory but over time...

Just caught up with you on here (I'm the Admin on the UK GS Suzuki Owners Group) and I love the pics. I have several GS1100Gs which are pretty similar (1982 and 1983). GS1000G 1980 BS34 CV Carbs - Lean Running?
