A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bike Finally Running - Header Pipe #2 Warm Not Hot - Cylinder Firing?

I wouldn't get too carried away with testing a static bike with a temporary fuel tank. Get it all together and go for a blast down the highway. You'll probably find they all chime in and work perfectly. Don't chase your tail testing in unrealistic conditions (a stationary bike at idle).

Transition from off idle to 1/8 Throttle? Looking for a mechanical explination!

Please post a picture of your carbs. I'm worried now that you are talking about CV carbs. You mention butterfly, vacuum, slide springs and air hole in the slide. These are all things associated with CV carbs not the VM carbs I have been thinking that you have. Very different procedures...

Transition from off idle to 1/8 Throttle? Looking for a mechanical explination!

That whole area of throttle operation is using the idle circuit. First thing to do is strip the carbs and make sure you have surgically clean idle circuits and idle jets (air and fuel). You should be able to eliminate any problems by adjusting your idle air and fuel screws. Look for a thread...

1230 with RS36 race engine now used in street bike - jetting help please...

Ha ha. Well I got around the wife by calling it a "new business". And in truth it is. I have been to 15 events around the country this summer and tested over 350 bikes. AND I have made a small extra income. The trouble is, I don't have time to put my own bikes on it...

1230 with RS36 race engine now used in street bike - jetting help please...

I've got RS36s on 2 of my EFEs and I sympathize with you. These carbs are awesome but very sensitive to minor adjustments. Sudco manual (which is really just a parts catalogue) and the information supplied with the carbs (a very poorly typed out leaflet) contradict each other - especially with...

    GS1150 / GSX1100 EFE Overcharging at Idle

You would think bad R/R but it works great on the Lithium Ion?

Still have stock R/R (!). Multimeter checks with back up one I have.

    GS1150 / GSX1100 EFE Overcharging at Idle

Done all the quick tests and results within range and battery is good (checked with a hygrometer too). I done lots of testing on these GS electrical system, so I know my way around them. One reading is bothering me; at idle it reads around 13.5 to 13.7 to begin with. After a few minutes it can...

Should I rebuild my engine, any advice?

Start with a top end and jugs tear down. It's not that difficult. See my GS1100G blog in my sig. Yes it will cost you gaskets and time and if you start to get adventurous and take the engine out, it will cost you quite a bit more in seals and potentially tools that you haven't got. Don't be...

81 GS650L Full Engine Tear Down - Rotor Removal?

On the GS1150s and GS1100Gs I have taken apart, no you do not need to remove rotor. Give it a go.

Project 85 GS1150EF project.... no start

Hook up a car battery to give it full boost at start up. I found that always helps.

    GS750 Engine knock

You've got 2 bad sounding noises there. Firstly, there is a knocking and secondly there is the swishing/tinkling sound when you rev up. You've gotta start with that cam chain. Then find out where that knocking is coming from. Greetings

    GS750 Engine knock

Be careful. Don't jump to conclusions. You can easily check the cam timing ( to see if it has slipped ) just by taking off the cam cover and following the instructions in the manual. A cam chain would have to be seriously loose to jump a tooth. And most likely the bike would not run at all well...

GS1000G: help with identifying where black white wire with ring terminal goes

That's a very informative article and makes sense. I need to take another look at my wiring! Although I'm pretty sure it was something that was suggested on GSR here but I could be wrong. In any case, the reason I did it was because the battery box had a rubber cushion (no. 13 here) that I...

GS1000G: help with identifying where black white wire with ring terminal goes

That battery box connection is not a good one. I have an extra wire going from there to the battery. Or if your black and white wire is long enough put it straight onto the negative battery terminal. That will ensure a good earth.

Pops n farts under 7k rpm

If it goes well after 7K then I would say the main jet is fine. Needle height adjustments should do it. And of course, you have done a full strip of the carbs with new O rings and carb rubbers? Haven't you?

    79 gs850 popping

For GS valves, lose is good. That means they are closing. If you can't find a gap then they are still open. When GS valves wear, the gap closes. So the tighter they are, the more worn they are. Keep on the side of a bigger gap to ensure they are closed correctly and you have built in some...
