A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am totally lost now. Would the Frame and Engine numbers not indicate the year, as with British Bikes.

I would love to know the real history of the bike, however, I think that would be pretty hard to establish at this stage. I will get my Daughter to put some photos up over the next few days. At 74 I wouldn't be great with this new technology, hence the reason I ride a 1979 motorbike.

Again, thanks everyone for the unbelievable response to my query. Keep up the good work.

The Registration Certificate has the same Frame and Engine numbers as is on the bike. Date of first Registration is listed as 01 January 1979.

Thanks. That little nut is there. However, I assumed that it was just a nut securing the outer Choke Casing. Every day a learning day. By the way. I really enjoyed the brief chats with you all. World can be a very lonely place at times and I find myself looking forward to the...

I will check the certificate tomorrow for that. I have the same problem with the Choke slipping closed while trying to start despite twisting it. I use a small clamp just below the knob to keep it up when starting and have it just tied to the handlebar with a short string.

Just gs850 and the number which is stamped into the frame. Same on the engine. I have it over 10 years and have never noticed a sticker. It may have been there before that.

Is there any way of using the Engine and Frame numbers to determine the year of the Bike.

Switch is as you describe. Choke is in the Steering Stem.

Don't see any such option there. Is there any other way. Is there any way I can identify the year from the Engine and Frame Numbers. Apologies for being such a nuisance.

Please excuse my ignorance, but how do I open the link you mention.

Thanks for all that. Could you please let me have some information on the "0" Rings as I might decide to overhaul them. The Frame No is 102736.

It is Registered 1979. It had points, however, I installed electronic ignition to it. I can't find any reference numbers on them. It doesn't have a kick start.

Hi Nessism. Thanks for your response. Where is the breather pipe and valve located. Photos would be brilliant if it's not too much trouble.
