I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Oddity on 3 cylinder

Hi decker. So here is where im at with this. First, as the post above indicates, the lean condition was caused by the carbs being out of sync. The butterfly on the number 3 was just slightly ajar and the other three where completely shut. Second.. If you dont have a set of gauges, just order a...

    Problem with turn signals

Hello all, I need some advice on where to start my diagnostics. Problem: Turn signal indicators work intermittently at operating speed (ie >20 mph). Symptoms: 1) All signals works fine parked with ignition on and engine off 2) At normal operating speed, if i simply click the turn signal...

    Oddity on 3 cylinder

Does "leaner" translate to "hotter?" Logically, i would think that "leaner" would translate to "cooler." If you are suggesting that its the other way around (ie leaner = hotter), then im hopeful that i may be on the right track and could expect to see an intake valve out of adjustment once i...

    Oddity on 3 cylinder

Humm. This does not feel like a carb or fuel starvation issue. It feels like a (lack of) vacuum problem. One thing i forgot to mention in my original post.. When adjusting the fuel mix screw.. If i screw it all the way down, the bike die on idle. So obviously the adjustment is having some...

    Oddity on 3 cylinder

Hello All, Im finally getting around to working on an 83 GS1100ED that i acquired about 8 years ago. I have no records for this bike as it was bought at auction. Im seeing some very strange symptoms on number 3 cylinder. I thought i would post these and get feedback before i go any further...

Hello Bike: Blue 83 1100e I need to source a new throttle plate for one of the carbs. I damaged it beyond repair while removing it. According to shop manual this is a BS34. The throttle plate has a "130" stamped on it. Ive posted about this before and several of you have graciously tried to...

    Throttle Plate

Hello All, For reasons which will remain unsaid, i am in need of the throttle butterfly plate from a BS34. To my horror, they are discontinued on Partzilla. Ive already ordered/received (and summarily discarded) one from ebay that i thought would be a fit. Can anyone offer a source for a...

Small o-ring under carb bowl gasket

Hello all, Rebuilding the carbs on 1983 GS1100ED. So in reading the shop manual, there is a picture of a small o-ring that fits between the bowl and the bowl gasket. In fact, the shop manual calls out being very careful to make sure its aligned when reassembling. During my disassembly, i found...

    More melted wires/connectors

no headlight on/off switch on 1980-.. That is an amazing revelation! I rode that bike for years and it never occurred to me until i read your post that there was no on/off switch for the headlight. I learn something new (that is actually old) everyday.

    More melted wires/connectors

Thanks for the prompt reply. I love a good mystery. My suspicion is that this "useless headlight loop" was a simple way to reuse parts an existing wiring harness from previous year. In my studies of how the stator and regulator work, i looked at (attached) this graphic in the service manual many...

    More melted wires/connectors

Hello all, Thanks for all the comments so far on the upgrade to stator and regulator. Ive done my homework and now understand how these components work and understand the problem that is causing the melted wires. This board is an absolute lifeline. Ive gotten further on the teardown and ive...

    Battery Indicator

Hi posplayr, in your post you mention two things that have perked my curiosity. 1) going to LED lights and 2) a modification to install an LED volt meter. Can you give me some insight on these mods? Is there a separate thread where you document the parts used and the process? If so, just point...
