A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

FINALLY! (Ode to Joy plays in the background) Installed 99% of the remaining connectors, lengthened the wiring on the L handlebar multi-function switch, built some "test" turn signals from spare light bulbs, plugged everything in and tested the harness. SUCCESS!!! Everything worked...

Folks, Thanks for all of the kind words and compliments - I once again apologize for not posting updates in a more timely fashion. Over the past couple weeks, life has been getting in the way of finishing the wiring. Unfortunately, the biggest obstacle to progress is me - a wise man once said...

Horn: definitely add a relay - these suckers can draw a lot. Granted, they are not a continuous load, i.e., you aren't sitting there for 10min with the horn energized. Headlamp: Ideally, using a traditional halogen headlight, you would have a circuit that powers the headlight without running...

Bob, For the sake of using something that is widely available at most auto parts stores, I suggest using whats called an "ice cube" relay - that's a generic term. These relays are manufactured by bosch/tyco/hella/panasonic and are approximately a 1" cube with a small mounting bracket...

Hey bud - the engine is going to be started before springtime. The electrics should be finished within the next week. Then it's onto the cables... Things got a bit goofy over the past couple weeks - my brakelines/fittings order turned into a debacle, but that's resolved now. Also, my...

    Progress!!! 1978 GS1000E Restoration/Performance Rebuild

I should have explained myself better - I have the grounds laid out in the harness the way I want them, I just didn't update my schematic. I.E, I ran separate grounds for my headlight and horns, yet the turn signal grounds are spliced into one wire, same with the brake/tail/lic/cluster etc.

Thanks posplayr - I'm a step ahead of you, though :-). I built a completely new harness and it's almost done - I just have to add a couple wires, test fit it in my frame, and then install the connectors.

Today's project - building a mounting bracket for the ignition and R/R. The most difficult part was coming up with a design that would look good but also be functional. I did all of my measuring/fitting with a cardboard template and then transferred the layout onto a sheet of 16ga steel. The...
