    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1981 suzuki gs650g on ebay, But they won't ship it

Thanks for joining the forum! Usually we do a better job at welcoming new members. IMO, they are misrepresenting what they are selling and you should report the seller to eBay. If all of your communication was through eBay's messaging system, you will have a strong case. I can't tell if you...

    83 GS850L Valve cover gasket thickness/material

On a 2-valve-per-cyl engine like the 850, the valve cover gasket thickness is not critical. As long as it's the right shape, it's good. I've used the OEM ones and the aftermarket ones. At least one set of aftermarket gaskets I bought was obnoxiously thick, like 3mm at least. It worked fine...

    Exhaust temps

I advise not putting too much stock in exhaust header readings, for two reasons. Infrared thermometers do poorly on certain surfaces, especially shiny ones. I've also found them to be wildly inaccurate anyway. Whether it's because the laser doesn't point to the same place as the infrared...

'83 850GL Maintenance and other repairs

I did something similar on my '80 850GL years ago... Those tach gears and housings were quite plentiful and cheap on ebay at that time, maybe no so much anymore? If you went the used route, make sure the gear you bought has the teeth going in the right direction. Suzuki used the same style of...

    The Good Humor GS850G

Man, I am digging this. Haven't seen such a thorough restoration thread in a long time. Some advice if you haven't read it yet: it's very critical that the rubber boots between the carbs and head are air-tight, and old ones tend to leak where the metal and rubber are bonded. Strongly consider...

Replace a G tank or seat to an L?

My first bike was a GS850GL but before I sold it, I bought a GS850G and got to compare the two. With proper handlebars, the L and the G handle _almost_ the same. The main difference is that the L seat is slightly lower which gives the bike+rider combo a lower center of gravity, something I...

1982 GS1100G Tach Gear Seal Holder Removal

I struggled with one of those for like 3 days, except the threaded collar was broken off from the stem in the head. I had ordered a new gear and holder and even then, that thing was a complete b*stard what with having almost nothing to grip and being in an awkward place. So yeah, I feel ya.

    GS1100G Drain Plug Washer

    Woes of selling things...

Let me guess, it was on FB marketplace? I get no end of weird requests any time I sell something there. My strategy is to just block anyone who only asks, "is it sill available?" and other questions that indicate they aren't serious. Eventually a serious buyer does come along and I have no...

    vinyl fork cover emblem

Hello! I recently did a little write-up on making a vinyl-cut emblem for the fork cover on my GS850G. It's over on my website: https://blog.bityard.net/articles/2022/June/diy-vinyl-cut-motorcycle-emblem For the impatient, the short version is: 1. Buy decent-ish fork cover 2. Clean it up 3...
