A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Philly to Cali - roundtrip! ride for the natives!

Maro, When will you be in Chicago? We have a great group of guys and gals here and we could probably set up a get together to meet you. Also, depending on dates, Cathy and I could likely put you up for a night or two. Thanks, Joe

    Polishing Stainless Steel

Eric, That pipe has a more polished finish than my Supertrapp. The Supertrapp pipes turn a brownish-copper color near the head and get lighter further down the pipe. The 3M pads will give you more of a brushed finish than what you currently have. Joe

    Polishing Stainless Steel

Eric, PM sent. I have never 'polished' stainless but 3M scrubbing pads work great for restoring the original 'brushed' finish. The green and purple (brown?) pads work well. Using WD-40 with the pads helps clean grease and grime. Per Supertrapp you should only scrub around the pipes, not along...

Wow! That's harsh! We have a lot of time but unfortunately not enough time to get up your way. We would love to meet up with any GSR members along the way but also need to keep making some southward progress. C'mon down to Astoria and we'll buy you lunch......... Joe

    Pacific Coast Highway Magazine Article

Big T, Actually Rt. 1 and 101 from Astoria OR to LA. I know there a ton of resources out there but the motorcycle magazine article seemed to be the most comprehensive resource around. I'd really like to have a copy for this trip. Thanks, Joe

    Pacific Coast Highway Magazine Article

Tim-Tom, Thanks for the tips. We will be shipping the FJR to Medford OR where we have some friends who own a shop (Hansen's BBW/Triumph/Ducati). We will spend a couple days riding with them to Crater Lake and other places in the area before heading north to Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. We're...

    Pacific Coast Highway Magazine Article

Cathy and I are getting ready to do a 'bucket list' tour of the Pacific Coast Highway and surrounding roads. Some years ago one of the motorcycle magazines did a three part article on the PCH and other great roads associated with it. Does anyone remember which magazine this article was printed...

    83 GS1100E Opinions/ Advice

Although I may be somewhat biased having owned an '83 GS1100E since new, the 16 valve GS models are excellent bikes and are bullet proof given normal maintenance. Mine has 54,000 miles (nearly 87,000 kilometers) on the clock and runs as well, if not better, than the day I got it. Of course, I...

Stoopid In The Smoky's Part Deux

That guy! That guy! Tim mentioned the 'That Guy' title was passed around a bit but really it was all mine. Day 1 the XR was running horribly, not even rideable off road. I had replaced the air filter before leaving and it ran crappy but found a crimped vent hose then it seemed to run okay...

Rochester to Oakland on my 1150

Mike, Thanks for keeping us updated. I was keeping an eye on the forum while out of town and was glad to see your issues got sorted out. I always say the Chicagoland/Indiana GS gang is the best and they proved it once again. Joe

Uncle Mike's BIKE Dead on Chicago Expressway - Coil question

UncleMike here posting from Joe's account. So far, so good. I'm guessing it was a loose connection with the Bandit coils I rigged up. Worst comes to worse, I have some spares with me ... I just wasn't smart enough to bring them (or my tools) with me on the short trip out to Joe's place...

Uncle Mike's BIKE Dead on Chicago Expressway - Coil question

Re-post, the first title apparently shocked some people. Mike's bike is dead on a Chicago expressway. He suspects a bad coil. Baatfam and I are headed that way with coils, battery, and tools. GBW is on standby with truck and ramp. Question was whether '82 Kat coils will work on Mike's 1150...

    Break bleeding tip:

Yes, I also hate bleeding brakes, not to mention hydraulic clutches. I have never tried speed bleeders, mainly because of cost. I usually have 4-6 bikes at any given time and that would be a hefty cost to have speed bleeders on all of them. I just read a very favorable review of the Motion Pro...

My GS cronicles (Ride around Lake Michigan)

I guess 'short' is a matter of opinion. I'd say a trip around Lake Michigan, which is around 1,000 miles, is a long ride. A short ride would be one where the trip to the hospital is longer than the ride on the bike, but that's just my opinion.....:p Joe

    From a sow's ear..

Larry, The drilled discs look great on your bike! Like you say, it's all in the details! Larry, If you've never tried them I would recommend Pirelli Sport Demons. They're simply the most confidence inspiring bias ply tire I have ever used. The wear isn't great but the grip is outstanding...
