A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Larry, I'm glad to help out and also proud that I can now say I have a tiny bit of history with your awesome bike. Joe P.S. It looks great, not that I expected anything less.

    Tank bag paint protection

I use clear contact paper, the stuff used to line drawers. It is very durable, cheap ($7 will buy a lifetime supply), and usually peels right off without any residue. I have had a bit of residue left around the edges, particularly in hotter temps but overall this is the best solution I have...

What GS did these exhaust systems come from?

Pricing is hard to determine. eBay auction bids can vary wildly depending on how many, if any, people have an interest in the item. Ideally you would have two or more bidders who really want the item. The potential problem with parts for rare bikes is that the odds are lower that someone will be...

Wow! I guess you just gotta know who to ask, huh? Nice work Scott!

What GS did these exhaust systems come from?

Ed, That would be my guess unless they are from an 1150...scratch that, it looks like the 1150s have heat shields too. The only other black pipes I know of are the later GS550s and those look to be shorter. You might want to check with GS Scott. He is very well versed in the differences between...

What GS did these exhaust systems come from?

Ed, Here are a few pics that may help. Sorry for the quality, the pipes are stored on a shelf above my garage door and I had to shine a flashlight on them to get decent pics. Katana left exhaust: '83 GS1100E original exhaust: '83 GS1100E 'new' exhaust: '83 GS1100E original rear heat...

What GS did these exhaust systems come from?

Ed, I can check numbers later today. I have two sets of '83 pipes which both have two mount points for heat shields on each side. The Kat pipes which, as pointed out, do not have heat shields. As far as I know my Kat pipes are original and complete. Thanks, Joe

    82 GS850G seat REDUX !!!

+1 on the Sargent Super Cell Atomic foam. I have used it on several bikes and it works great. Last time I bought it the cost was around $20 per square foot. One square foot should be plenty to do one layer over some of your existing foam. Thanks, Joe

Lee Parks Total Control Advanced Riding Clinic

Here's a great photo of Wazz really cranking it over at the skills Day in Indy. Brian Wringer posted this pic on another forum and people said it had to be photoshopped, nobody could get that far over on an older bike. I can assure you the pic is authentic as I took it myself and don't know...

    Krustys Dual Sport Adventure

This was the maiden voyage for the XR600R and I must say I couldn't be happier. It started on the first kick 90% of the time and usually no more than 3 kicks. It was a bit finicky in the morning as I haven't nailed down a solid cold start procedure yet. It was perfectly comfortable running 70-75...

    SealSkinz Waterproof Socks

P.S. After the previous test I realized I had not performed the test vs. a control so I repeated the test with a 'placebo' aka non-waterproof similar black sock. After the test the placebo foot was soaked and the SealSkinz foot was dry. I feel much better now that I have used sound testing...

    SealSkinz Waterproof Socks

After discovering during an all day rain in the Ozarks last year that my new Roadgear boots are not completely waterproof I searched for a solution. While reading a book on dual sport riding I found out about SealSkinz waterproof socks. They had some excellent reviews so I bought a pair. I?m...
