A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    1981 gs450 Air mixture screw

6 years ago, out of curiosity , I removed a 650 mixture screw and made this sketch. Two years ago, I got some off an eBay guy …..they were well made.

    1979 GS850 Ignition Trouble

“When I unplug a 2-3 plug cap, the bike runs poorly, but when I unplug a 1-4 plug cap, the bike dies.“ the 1-4 setup is behaving normally for this type of dual plug ignition coil…the 2-3 is not, so somehow 2-3 is finding an alternative ground path. Can you go back to the 2-3 original ignition...

    1979 GS850 Ignition Trouble

”When the 2-3 contact breaker is closed, the 2-3 coil gets voltage. When the 1-4 breaker is closed, both 1-4 and 2-3 coils get voltage.“ sounds like a short…suspect the wiring adjacent to condensers…while your at it, replace the condensers as they can do funky things . Ignition coils on these...

    GS400B camchain tensioner adjustment

Take it off….after locking the set screw! It’s hard to explain its correct function, but holding and caressing it will make it obvious how it’s supposed to work. The plunger is only to push out towards the chain . The knob with its spring pushes on a ball riding on ramp that prevents the plunger...

    GS400B camchain tensioner adjustment

No….sounds like knob is vibrating , probably not putting tension on plunger shaft. Read this link, there’s another link inside it too http://members.dslextreme.com/users/storagecliff/images/engine_odds-n-ends.html#A05

    1979 GS850 Ignition Coil Help

This 1979 gs850 still has points ignition ,right? Ignition coils are very durable, so I’d suspect plug caps before blaming coils. Try removing plug caps, snip coil wires back 10mm ..maybe also get new set of plug caps, as are inexpensive.

Cant Keep 1982 Suzuki GS450GA Running

”I'm having a similar problem with my 1982 GS450GA. I found a small hole in my accelerator pump diaphragm and now that I messed with it a bit fuel leads out the boot where the pin comes out of the carb body. Any ideas where I could get a new diaphragm? It's discontinued... “ probably impossible...

    Well, That's Annoying

. “I wouldn't be replacing a working stator though.... for all the reasons you've stated & the fact that it's likely to go on for years with the new one fitted even if it did get hammered a bit.“ when I installed my SH-775 back in 2013, I left the tortured stator alone….never got more than 14...

GACK! GS has no lights! yup, im going to be one of those....

You can disconnect r/r and stator stuff and see if power magically returns . As far as charging connections, the 79 gs850 color wiring diagram off Basscliffs site should be similar regarding layout. I’ll assume you tried a different 15 amp fuse The new stator ….is it a 12 pole unit like the...

    No power?!

As to The Who and Why stuff….older models had headlight on/off switch, and designers knew that if you ran with lights ”off “ ,stator output was excessive , so disconnecting one leg of stator was their solution. When our friendly gov decided to mandate headlight “on” at all times , on/off switch...

    No power?!

How were bike things before this fun started? I’d probably disconnect r/r and stator from harness, then charge battery up and test power at critical points . This diagram should offer clues. http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/images/GS1100G_1982_wiring.jpg

    82 gs850g loses spark

“Also, I hope it's obvious, but a wiring problem could absolutely cause this sort of intermittent failure; I wouldn't condemn the igniter until doing a very thorough check and cleaning of every connector and wire, eliminating that accursed stator loop, and making sure the coils and igniter are...
