DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Variety of Electrical Questions Regarding 1980 GS550L.

I don't know about the 550, but the R/R should be either under your left hand side cover, or attached to the bottom of the battery box.

    '82 GS850L Stalling problem

You just started a new thread about where to buy replacement coils. I really doubt that's your problem....both coils going like that at the same time, and only one lead per coil. You say it ran like new the first few days. How long were you actually running it those days? Were they just...

Carb question - what are these?

Tell him to measure the ID of the throat (of the side that connects to engine, not airbox). That will tell you what size carbs they are.

    Where to start

First step would be to get a new battery. You don't need a "working" R/R and stator to get the bike running. The carbs may or may not need cleaning, since you say it's only sat for several months (depending on what state they were in when the bike was put away). I'd install a new battery...

    Smokin' hot rectifier

No, 1100ED doesn't route the lead through the headlight. Suspect a short / bad connection somewhere in the system as the culprit.

    ElectroSport R/R question--1978 GS1000

The red from the R/R goes to the red lead that the old R/R hooked up to (or in the case that you had seperate regulator and rectifier) the red lead that went to the rectifier.

    i need help wiring

Either way, depends if he plans on riding without his headlight being on. There was a thread a while back which might help clarify the connections if there's still some confusion: http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=92299&highlight=wires

    i need help wiring

You are basically going to bypass the headlight loop with the one wire. Just plug the 3 wires coming from the stator directly to the 3 yellows wires on the new R/R unit.

    Replaced the carbs...right track?

You'll have to do a few plug reads, but sounds right now like the carbs are set up too lean. Synchronize the carbs....and if you're really sure the float heighths are set correctly, you should be able to adjust with the mixture screws. (This is assuming you don't have any intake leaks)

    Front brake Frustration

Then you have much better eyesight than I do....the hole I'm talking about is tiny...too small for me to see anything moving through it. Going from memory, it's something like only a fraction of a millimeter in diameter.

    Idle/Running problems with a 1983 GS750E

That specific filter that you're using (Purolator F21124..or maybe you have the NAPA equivalent??) is a piece of crap, has a tendency to "lock up" after the filter paper has been wet and then allowed to dry, unless you have a pressurized system. I've tried the exact same one myself.

    Idle/Running problems with a 1983 GS750E

"Assuming" the fuel is definately flowing into the carbs now (you are trying without the filter now, right?), just for kicks, turn the pilots in to about 2 turns out from bottoming (somewhere around normal range). Then move your idle adjust knob up 1/2 turn or so, see if it'll run then. It's...

    Idle/Running problems with a 1983 GS750E

For just getting it to idle, the 1/4" fuel line won't make a difference, but the fuel filter might. Do try it without the filter. Here's a quick stupid question, but you do have your idle adjust knob turned in far enough, right?
