A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Egads, new problem after RR repair

You're probably only running on 3 (or 2?) cylinders. Next time you start the bike, let it run for 2-3 minutes....then with an eyedropper put a drop of water on the top of each header to see if they're all firing. If the water doesn't sizzle or bounce away, that cylinder isn't firing...

    Carb Cleaning

You don't have a prime (if it's a standard '80's petcock).....you have to suck on the end of the vacuum hose which leads to the petcock. Once gas start flowing, you can (while maintaining suction) bend the tube and put a clothespin/clamp on it, then let go.....the vacuum will remain and the gas...

    Front brake Frustration

I know you say you cleaned the master cylinder assembly, but did you really make sure that the tiny little return hole in the m/c (On your model, I think it's hidden under the plastic of the reservoir) was clear? If there was corrosion or hardened dirt, it may not have come out during a regular...

    83 GS1100E gas tank question

Supposed to be a bracket there, held down by 4 screws/bolts (2 on each side). The tank is bolted down to that bracket.

    Choke Pick Up Tube

That's a rip-off. You should easily be able to find a complete set of carbs on e-bay for under that price. I think you need VM26's....if that's the case, this would be an example...

    Newby with GS850G

Throttle cable is adjusted too tight if that is happening. Yes, that could be part of your problem....if enough throttle is given, even with choke on, the choke circuit is bypassed. Also, could be that your choke pick-up tubes are clogged, not giving the engine enough fuel when it's cold...

    Carb Cleaning

While you have them off of the bike, might as well check the float heights. Also, make sure the choke pick-up tubes aren't clogged. Makes starting a whole lot easier. Check it/them with compressed air.

    Bike will not turn over

What's the battery voltage (a few hours after it's charged)? You say petcock works when vacuum applied...how did you test? Do you have the vacuum hose hooked up to carb #2? (not to #3 as is the case with VM carbs). Are the plugs wet with fuel after you tried to start it? Have the carbs...

Broken Bolt bound too happen eventually

Looks like you might even have enough thread left on that to put two nuts, counter-tightened against each other, on it (if you haven't already messed up the threads royally with vice-grips). If that's the case, tap the end of that baby with a hammer for a while and melt some paraffin on the...

    Extreme Rich condition

Did you ever replace the 4 rubber plugs that cover the idle jets ?(Not the plugs which covered the mixture screws on top of the carbs.....I saw that there was some misunderstanding about which plug(s) you were talking about in an earlier post).

    electrical issues on MY GS?

It's an extra safety for you, in case your float needles/valves are leaking, or you have a sticky float. With the engine not running, gas won't flow through the line. Just put a length of hose on the (smaller) vacuum nipple on the petcock.....and direct your fuel line from the petcock into a...

    electrical issues on MY GS?

That's because when you checked it, you probably did not apply a vacuum to the vacuum line on your petcock.
