I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

The Carbtune tool rocks! But Colortune is not so easy...

I used a colortune recently and it worked fine. I did not use the copper washer, as it wont stay on the plug. Because the motor is hot, and the recesses difficult to get to, I just screwed the colortune in fingertight using the extention cable it comes with. All four cylinders ran fine with it...

    Fallen bike...

Hi There was a thread about this a while ago on here. The guys bike fell over and the mount for the engine crashbar cracked the stator cover. Thread has a good pic. http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=136866&highlight=crash+bar Have a real close inspection of your bike...

    engine dont turn over

Was that before you connected the battery up the wrong way? If yes, may have damaged something, better check again. However, my money is on the carbs.

    Black streaks in brake fluid??

Hi Yes, the little squirt of fluid rising from the hole nearest the exit of the master cylinder should not happen untill the lever is released. Also, I noticed a while ago while searching the forum for brake system information that DOT5 fluid was not recommended, but I can't remember why. I...

    GS750ET carb removal ?s

You should replace all 4. I found that they were handed, ie 2 LH and 2 RH, but the LH ones are discontinued. Its OK to use 4 RH boots, there is not much difference. I could see none at all in mine, but they were OK and I did not need to replace them.

Small carb pops at steady speed. LOTS OF INFO!!!

I personally would colortune all 4 pots, as there can be differences in each carb, inlet tract, valve, compression etc. that can affect the burn. Having said that, I don't think it will solve your problem, I just like to be thorough. Can't hurt though ;)

First ride out after winter refit - Wow

Hi Guys I have to tell you people, as you are the only people who actually know how I feel. Took the bike out for a good run for the first time [ever]. She runs as sweet as a nut, and pulls like a stampede of stallions. My heartfelt thanks to this great site and all who helped me ID the...

    Re-laqeur Polished parts

Don't know if it will work or not, but I was going to try ordinary paintwork wax polish. I usually just use autosol polish about once a month. Once its polished to a good shiny finish, its easy to keep on top of it. (Fair weather rider talking here) :) Wipe it over with oil for winter storage.

Cleaned carbs - now runs like crap and revs very slowly

Warning Warning Often the O rings and washers do not stay on the needle when its pulled. They can be pretty hard to see in that tiny hole, but its possible they ARE STILL IN THERE. Have a real good look, and dig around in the hole with a piece of soft wire to see if you can hook anything out.

Missing e-clip in fuel inlet valve.... HELP

Am I right in thinking the pic with the excessivly bent tab is from trashed carbs, not the actual carbs we are discussing? If so, its maybe not an issue. Did mine not so long ago and as a test, with the bowls off and the carbs upside down, blew into the fuel line as hard as I could. With just...

Alternative Carb Cleaning - Baking Soda Blasting

Well worth a try Well worth a try I like the sound of this, in principle. Here in the UK, we have no chemical dips available. As the article says, the soda dissolves in water. Someone posted here a while ago that just leaving the carbs in a bucket of water for a month or so was pretty...

    intake boots

Be aware that they are handed, 2 Left hand and 2 right hand. I don't think the 750 has intake O rings, my 82 doesn't, the boots go straight onto the head. When you put them on. line them up correctly, as they are angled. Twist so the carb connection part is vertical, and you could lay a ruler...

Why do my brakes "swish" and my pads wear strangely?

Could be the caliper Could be the caliper I'm not convinced your rotor is the main cause of this. Its probably warped a bit now, but if it was warped enough to bind against the edge of the caliper mount like that, you would have seen it wobbling just by spinning the wheel with the caliper...

    Exhaust Question

The flanges on the middle pipes are slightly different, but one piece, and fit over the pipe. Then you have 2 collets that go around the pipe, which the flange pushes against when you bolt it up. So you need 2 flanges (often called clamps or collars), and 4 collets to fix the centre header to...

    Lost in France

Not especially a GS story, but worth a mention. Back in the 70s a friend and I wen't on a trip from the Uk to the South of France on my Honda CB750. I'd not had the bike long, having upgraded from a BSA Lightning, so we had lots of tools and a gallon of oil top of the list above cloths and...

Frikkin' punk kids and their cheap UJMs

Wow Wow From a UK perspective, this slams it home that america is a big and fantastic place. Generally, we only get to see the tourist/media selected bits, that often paint your wonderfull country in a less favourable light. My hat goes off to these guys, and I'm a little jealous, of lost...

    Exhaust gasket replacement

Mission accomplished Mission accomplished Hi After your confirmation that they were gaskets, finally got them out. They seemed to be glued in, came out as long spirals after I got a heavy with a screwdriver. Gotta get a new screwdriver now :) Thanks for the help.

    Exhaust gasket replacement

Hi I've asked this question before but I still have doubts. PO had fitted a 4 into 1 which is in pretty bad condition so I decided to replace with a stock 4 into 2. Problem is the exhaust gaskets, or maybe lack of them. PO seems to have used a lot of silicone in there. I've got that all out but...

    Engine to frame ground wire

Thanks for the input guys. Answers my question and more... Thought I was almost done with the maintenance (carbs, valves, brakes, exhauste, suspension) but now seems I have a load of electrical stuff to do. Pretty sure the old girl was charging OK anyway, but I guess prevention is better than...
