A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    Carburetor carb boot

Dave, How did these work out for you? I'm going to need a set for a 1982 1100G. I can't find any on Amazon, but some cheap ones on eBay showing the hose clamps for about $57.

what did you wrench on today??

New to me 1982 GS1100G. Got it started with a fresh battery and barely ran on choke. Time to clean the carbs... 3 out of the 4 slides are stuck, but overall not very bad in the bowls.

    Identifying seal 81 750

#57 is a lock washer for the float bowl screw. The carbs on my GS850GL have the same rubber "spacer" in there. I just reused the old ones. I believe it is just to take up space and hold the float bowl gasket flatter when you tighten it down. Or maybe to keep the metal plug from vibrating out...

    Identifying seal 81 750

May be referring to that flat rubber ring that goes under the float bowl gasket...?

    Pic of the week game

Just bought another GS this weekend, a 1982 GS1100G. Came with a clear windscreen installed on the bars. I recently installed a Puig smoked windscreen that mounts to the headlight bracket on the 1980 GS850GL I have owned for 10 years.

    1983 gs850G valve cover breather

Yes that stuff is supposed to be there. 4 pieces, in 2 places. Catches oil and lets it Drip back down into the valve cover. Just letting the vapors through.

    1983 gs850G valve cover breather

Be careful with the valve cover bolts. They like to break off easily.

    Pic of the week game

Nice pics everyone. Voting for storm 64. I just took the family to the Johnson Space Center in January and parked about 4 spots up from where your bike is. This photo looks a bit older... there is now a Falcon 9 booster rocket exhibit in the top left.

Also voting redman. Looks like a narcissistic paint job!

    How to raise the needle?

I'd go back to the pilot jets... either clogged (running out of gas can send the gritty bits through the carb) or you need to go back to the stock size since you are running a stock airbox.

GS550e What the heck? Is this by design or a pervious owners mistake?

I zoomed in and it looks like someone replaced the screws that are used to adjust the balance of the throttle plates on the carbs. Those balance screws are too long and will hit the choke rail. Need to install the OEM setup or get shorter screws. See the post below on the screws I used to...

    Pic of the week game

Sorry... I forgot to log on and vote on Friday! Was a busy day. This photo was taken right when I got home after purchasing my bike in May 2015. It was a good day.

    Newbie through and through

It's alive!! Sounds like a hanging idle... too lean without the airbox.

    Pic of the week game

Couldn't get out to ride this week, so had to dig up an old one. There's clouds in it, although not spectacular... This was just before we left Sturgis to ride home. I'll submit this one so I can get my goose egg and eat. LOL

what did you wrench on today??

Well, wasn't planning on wrenching quite yet, but I ordered a cushion for my side stand with some other parts to fix some oil leaks (fork seals, tach gear, cam chain tensioner) and thought I would just throw this on the bike... That's not gonna fit!! Never noticed the "tang" on the side stand...

    Brake Caliper Piston Wear

I agree the line does look a little shorter than it should be for that routing.

Nice looking bike for sure! Is that a Datsun pick up behind it?

    Pic of the week game

Also voting for trevor and his sweet 10-year old Mullet!! LOL I started out on two 1978 Yamaha GT80's that my grandpa had for us to run around the farm with. Couldn't wait to get done with lunch so we could get back on them. Great memories, but I don't have any pics I could come up with.

Check all connections to the starter.. Lead from the solenoid, ground cable for starter, starter button, etc..

    Continued Hard Starting Woes

My guess would also be the choke pickup path from the bottom of the bowl. I thought mine were clear until I hit them a second time with cleaner and compressed air. They were indeed NOT all clear. Page 51 on the tutorial from Ed. Run an aux tank and try to start it to rule out the petcock. Also...
