A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    '83 550: Leaking Fuel, Can't Idle

I'd check you float bowl gaskets. Forgot to tighten the screws on one bowl one time and created a leak while running. If you haven't fully gone through your carbs... and did it well. You need to. From Ed's Signature --->> Carb rebuild...

I'll vote for gustovh this week. I like the story as well. Doesn't look like a place you should be on that motorcycle. Perhaps a covered wagon... surprised he didn't "die of dysentery" :biggrin-new:

    Trottle.

1+ on the rear brake. Makes controlling tight, slow turns manageable. If you start to tip, a little bit of throttle is actually your friend. Makes the bike want to stand up. This guy explains it pretty well. https://youtu.be/6JCEZfXVk9M?si=_tgvQF230Mj81QNI

    Bad petcock?

On my GL... has the really flat one with only ON and PRI. To prime you must select prime and hit the starter momentarily to create a constant vacuum. When you switch back to ON it releases vacuum and only on when running and getting vacuum from the carb.

    Bad petcock?

I suspect it was part of the check valve from the petcock that holds a constant vacuum on prime. Bet it got sucked down towards the carb. When I opened up my original petcock, that piece was all but falling out from years of degradation. And they don't give you that piece in a rebuild kit. Not...

Carb Troubleshooting Help - 1980 GS1000L with CV Carbs and Vacuum Petcock

After using an ultrasonic on my carbs and parts, found my float valve seats and needles still had a slight tackiness to them and would stick shut intermittently. Was only running consistently on 2 cylinders. Had to take them all out again and polish just a little. Ran great after that. Just an...

    Bad petcock?

Run it on prime and take the vacuum hose off at the petcock. Check with your finger on the end of the hose for vacuum. Or better yet, put a gauge on it.

    Steering stem removal and replacement

There was a recent thread where someone changed fork oil and forgot to tighten the drain screw.. so lost all the oil in one fork. He was reporting wobbling about 25-30 mph. Might be worth a look to check your fork oil levels.

    SH775 wire harness guidance

I almost bought that wiring harness. Decided to go with another one for a Polaris from RM Stator. This one came with a connector to add to the wires from the stator.
