A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    What Reg Rec To buy?

If you are changing the R/R, I find no Orange or Orange/Green wire that connects to the R/R. I have been through two wiring diagrams for the GS1100 bikes. No place can I find an Orange/Black wire. And the legend for wire colors on these diagrams don't even list an Orange/Black as a wire color...

    What Reg Rec To buy?

Orange/black? I was responding to your previous post, which was: My post was in regards to only the black/white wire and to the orange wire, as you said you knew where the red wire goes. What is this orange/black wire of which you now speak?

    What Reg Rec To buy?

The black/white wire is the ground for the R/R. The solid ,Orange wire runs from the ignition switch, through a connector, and continues on to the fuse box. When the ignition key is in the "ON" position, that solid Orange wire then supplies power to all three of the 10 amp fuses in the fuse box.

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

Good work! I can kinda explain what you are seeing here. Mind you, I have never scoped an IB and can only guess exactly what goes on inside there. When you see the ground side of the coil voltage drop jump up to 11+ volts, that indicates the IB has released the ground for that coil (you know...

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

By golly, you got it! You don't really need to press the starter button as you have shown that the battery has enough umph (technical term) to power up the starter and still have something left over for the coils. The reason both coil's primary voltage drop is nearly identical, grab your...

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

let me try this way: The power side of the coil primary circuit runs from, battery + post, through a connector, to the fuse box, through the main fuse, out the main fuse on the red wire, through a connector way up to the ignition switch, through the ignition switch contacts, out the ignition...

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

I understand the + meter probe is on the + battery post. But to test the voltage drop on the coil power side, the - meter probe should be on the POSITIVE side of the coil. To test the voltage drop on the coil ground side: The + meter probe should be on the NEGATIVE side of the coil, and the -...

    I am stymied....vacuum leak.

Yep, it is time for the blue tune! What is the color @ 1.5 turns out and 3.0 turns out? Pilot screws have good o-rings? At 3 turns out do you think the pilots are sucking air?

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

On these wasted spark ignition systems one pair of plugs fire at the same time, one plug is on the compression stroke while the other plug is on the exhaust stroke. The plug on the exhaust stroke has nothing to ignite hence the term "wasted spark". Typically, the secondary current flows out of...

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

I doubt it, but never say never. Now the other way around, a bad coil could mess up the ignitor All the ignitor does is provide a ground for the coil primary circuit. And of course the transistor in the ignitor releases the ground to induce a spark in the coil secondary. I don't recall if you...

Back again. 82 GS1100 drive issues

How about pulling a couple of spark plugs when acting up? If its fueling issue plugs will be white. If voltage issue plugs will be dark. Easy/cheap things first.

    82 GS650G - Signal Generator

I don't believe so. That O/W wire constantly has 12v on it. Here's the way I read the wiring diagram for the GS650G. Starting with the ignition fuse, once the ignition switch is turned on the ignition fuse sends current up to the handle bar Engine kill switch. If the kill switch is closed...

    Spark Plugs 1980 GS1000gt

An old timer told me years ago that the spark will take the path of least resistance. So which ever ground strap offers the least resistance, that's the way the spark will jump.

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

Depending on how you are using the screwdriver method, if you are grounding the screwdriver to a metal surface, you are checking for spark at atmospheric pressure. If you are grounding the screwdriver to the tip of the sparkplug you are checking for spark under compression. It takes a bunch more...

1981 Suzuki GS650G - dies under load when throttled past ~1/3

Just wanted to add my $0.02 worth: When under load, especially near the peak torque RPM, is when "real" compression ratio (as opposed to static compression ratio) is near its maximum. With out I dyno I don't know how you could scope the secondary ignition when under load to see how the...

Well, at least I am finally back on! My computer caught a virus and was quarantened at the Computer Doctor's for bout a week. Got all my data erased (ugh), but did get it up graded to Win 10. Then spent the next 2 weeks trying to get access to the GS list again. Now I know what withdrawal is...

Turn signals inop. They have voltage to both sides?

Unless I missed it, have you removed the indicator switch from the circuit and verified its function with an ohm meter? Even if it functions correctly, also verify that it can't cross feed to the opposite side. Here's hopping we're digging near the potatoes :-)
