A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Paint for a '79 GS1000S Wes Cooley replica

140mph speedo indicates it's a 79 model. The drilled discs, now seeing them up close, are not stock. 80 did have drilled discs, but a different pattern to the hole spacing. As to the clock and oil temp, clock yea they do go. The oil temp is usually disabled due to the addition of an oil cooler...

Paint for a '79 GS1000S Wes Cooley replica

Some better pics wil lhelp us. As to the square vs. round signals, 80's S models were round. the square signals could have come offa different model GS or may be complete aftermarket. The disc brakes on yours are drilled, which indicates a 80 model year. 79 were solid discs. As to the rear...

    Progressive or Hagon

I use Progressive front and rear on my GS. My Triumph has a Hagon mono shock. Tough to compare apples and oranges in this case. Neither have ever leaked or broken down. The Triumph has about 5000 miles on it, the shock, the bike total of 20K. The GS has never had a suspension problem. I may...

A LOT of blowby smoke after engine rebuild

"I used transmission fluid to lube the cylinders, rings and pistons when I re-assembled. Long story short, I didn't finish up the rest of the bike for 4 years after that." Never heard of this. Not saying it's bad, just never heard of it. You're keeping the rev's down or under 6K, but how...

    The 8trackmind special stage IV

I need a spokes and superbike option :) You know my feelings already. I love spokes, but haven't found a set I can afford or in decent shape yet. I have superbike bars on my S, I had clubmans on my GT750......the Triumph has risers. So depending on the bike and seating position, I can take...

Is synthetic oil good or not for old GS?

A souple of mechanics told me, I know their lips were moving, they could be lying :) No seriously they both said the synth does not drain, it still coats the metal surface and doesn't allow the dino oil to coat or adhere. It never really releases or allows the dino to do it's job. This is...

    Mixing chains

I got almost 20K out of this one. The Triumph like to run at 5Krpm=90mph+......... It has a kink in it . I used Maxima chain wax for the last 10K on it. I understand the stock Triumph chain is not a "high end" chain.

Is synthetic oil good or not for old GS?

Now you're asking for trouble. As they say, you can't go back. Once synth, stay with it. It's ok to go from dino to synth, but not back. Try the blend type

    synthetic oil

No not true. I have a wet clutch in my Triumph. Almost 20,000 miles no problems with only synth oil. It's the energy star types that cause us problems.
