A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    rotor/flywheel puller for a GS1000..?

Wow. Really. I didn't think there would be an oil journal big enough for that 1" washer to get into the sump.

Thank you very much for the kind offer to send me your puller. I'm very grateful. I'll take...

    rotor/flywheel puller for a GS1000..?

I 'm replacing the stator on my 79 GS1000S. I bought one along with a new R/R from Steve's Motorsports. Very nice people. Answered some very noobie questions I had. Basically walked me through the whole process. (Damn it, Jim. I'm a painter not a mechanic) As I was putting the stator cover...

    From 78c to 79s clone

Painting an S is really more difficult then most people might think it is. Getting it all symmetrical and correct, especially the tank stripes, tests the patience and skill of even the best painter. Your's looks real nice, Chuck. You should be proud. Can't wait to see it all assembled.

    1980 gs1000g rebuild

I like the color, too. Flashy, for sure. Are all those scratches on the Durango hood from putting metal gas tanks on it...?

Is this Vance and Hines full exhaust gs750 repairable, or trash?

You might sandblast it, fix the hole by welding it and grinding it smooth, or if it isn't too bad fix it with JB Weld then spray it all black.

    Another one… ‘83 GS1100E Restomod

I actually like the all black wheels. You could put a blue pinstripe around the rim edge to add a splash of color and to separate them a bit.

    1978 GS550 Project

Always a good feeling when a project all comes together especially as nice as it came out. Must've taken awhile to set up all the parts on the sidewalk..lol

Nicely done. The parts look awesome.

    Paint colour

www.diablocycle.com can set you up with a stripe kit. Very good quality product. As far as the teal color goes, you might go to an auto paint store where they can let you thumb through their 1,000's of paint chips until you find one that's as close as possible. That's a pretty color that was...

    42 year old motorcycle

Maybe using a hair dryer set on high would get it warm enough to allow it to be bent back without the melting heat you get from a heat gun.

    Cold start

I'm certainly not an authority, but that petcock looks like it needs to be thrown away. New ones are available, a bit pricey, but a new one would eliminate the possibility of that being your problem, or at least takes away the need to use a screwdriver to turn it. I can only imagine what a pain...

    Skunk tank salvage underway

There was a time that you would just throw a tank like that in the garbage but they're so rare now as you know. You got your hands full, Chuck. After you get it all welded up, maybe take it to a radiator shop and get it boiled out, tested and sealed. I've had great success with that. How's...

Winter Rebuild Almost Done - 1982 GS650G - Seat questions?

I've had all my seats reupholstered professionally, and the price isn't too high. $200 is the most I've ever spent and they look brand new.

    Cold start

It may be a stupid question, but do you turn your petcock to the "Prime" position when you try to start it up? After I got my S, I went through the same problem before someone told me about the petcock position. It, too, would be very hard to start, and when it did, it was only 2 cylinders until...

2K paint job, and a $12 spray booth

Very clever set up. $67 for paint is nothing..lol. I've spent 5-$600 for paint. Reds are especially pricey. The 2K clear will do a good job of protecting it. Nicely done.

    1982 gs1100e

That's coming out so nice. Your painter did an excellent job on the body parts. I, too, used the VHT flat black header paint for my exhaust. I noticed, accidentally, that if you let them dry for a few days, then rub them down with a blue paper shop rag, they get a real nice shine to them almost...

best paint options for everything except the tank

I used VHT (brand) paint on the Yosh header on my bike. I didn't bake it or cycle through a couple of heat cycles, maybe should have, but it still looks great after more then 10 years. It's a very good product. I used Duplicolor engine enamel on my engine, fork legs, wheels, and brackets, and...
