A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Rust seized pistons, best mixtures to use to free, and ATF questions

With the head off you might have to collapse the pistons to free it up. Drilling holes into the piston tops and chiseling it out enough to free up the rusted rings will save the cylinder and crank also the cases. But I feel the pistons are already gone right now anyway. Keep us informed.

Steering stem lower bottom bearing outer race remove removal

I took a piece of rebar which is very hard and bent it into a sort of semi 'J' shape in my vice and ground an angle onto the bottom of the 'J' end that would 'catch' the inside part of the race and it taps out nicely. Used it many times. Works for me.

What is the quickest e.t. old GS, street ridden and legal you know of?

Back in the eighty's I saw the quickest factory stock '85 GS1150 I ever saw make a pass @ 11.11 @ 123mph . All totally factory stock right thru the mufflers and air box. Big guy though tall and about 240lbs. Most stock 1100's went i nto the mid elevens @119/120 mph range. Street riders no racers.

Drilling out JB Weld from exhaust bolt thread?

A carbide cutter will cut that tap. with the engine on work bench you can use a 1/8 carbide cutter in a dremel or die grinder . cut a 'trench' down the center and stay away from the sides of the hole. Pick up a double cut carbide cutter from industrial house. Dip cutter in oil every 60 seconds...

Whats the best exhaust valve back cut angle?

I use 36-37 degrees for Suzuki's I have tried 36 but 37 works better for me and my customers. While Kawasaki's seem to respond better at 35 degrees. I have found that hemi chambers 'like' 35-37 and wedge heads (auto) like 30 degrees. That is what my flow bench says anyway. I remember John...

    1100 16 valve engine into 1981 GS750 frame

Thinking about dropping an 1100 16 valve engine into a 1981 GS750 frame. I am sure it will fit because it has a 16 valve 750 engine now. Just concerned about the frame and the torque the 1100 puts out. If anyone has done this , was the frame beefed up or strengthened for the larger (power)...

    Measuring cam lift

H2. I use some 'V' blocks to rotate the cams in and a dial indicator zero'd on the base circle. While rotating camshaft and read the lift off the indicator. Use the figure 1.52 to calculate the lift of that camshaft less whatever lash you use. Helps me identify cams using this method . Terry

Low Cost / High Performance GS1100E Head work

Hey Jim, Had a friend send his '83 1100 head to Paul Gast for head work. With OS valves (28.5/24.0) . Said it was a full on port job, the flow chart said 105 cfm @ .500. Paid big money too. He brought it over and I put it on my bench...Disappointed ! It maxed out 95.0 @ .500 lift. (10") ...

    oversize valve install 4valve gs

What Ray said. H2 I have found that having the valves back cut 37 degrees will indeed pick up low lift flow a bunch. That will get the 'moving column of air' started earlier in the lift cycle. and it is an effective and cheap mod. Much more effective than removing that 'ring' on street engines...
