A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Maybe the most "cobbled-together" bike I have ever purchased!

Starting to look a little better with a stock front fender and a chrome speedo cover!

Maybe the most "cobbled-together" bike I have ever purchased!

Anyone know if these are the headlight mounts for a 1150? This thing has a bigger than stock headlight, but I have no idea what bike it is from. It will probably be on Fleabay once I figure out what I have!

Got a little surprise when I took the headlight out of the housing! I guess it could have been worse. At least they had moved on!

Yeah, the tank is a '78 indented tank. It has never been lined and looks new inside. That's one of the reasons I bought it!

Yes, I have a clear title. The CV carbs that were on it worked, just not very well, and I had a newly rebuilt set of the correct carbs sitting on a shelf.

Maybe the most "cobbled-together" bike I have ever purchased!

Looks like I've decided what to do. I'm going to slowly get it back to an original skunk as much as possible over the winter months. Today I rebuilt the cam chain tensioner, installed the new carb to head boots, painted the starter cover and stuck the new carbs on it. Waiting on an airbox...

Maybe the most "cobbled-together" bike I have ever purchased!

Looks like someone changed the intake boots on the head to a larger diameter size to "almost" fit the CV carbs. That and some red silicone got 'em to work I guess! Like I said, it is cobbled-together! A set of intake boots and carbs that I had for a '79 GS850 fit perfectly!

Maybe the most "cobbled-together" bike I have ever purchased!

That's the direction I am leaning. I've already got a set of the correct VM carbs for it. Just got to get an airbox! Yeah, and the tank is clean inside and has not been lined. That's a plus! Looks like there may be some filler on it, as there is a surface crack in the paint, which is not...

Maybe the most "cobbled-together" bike I have ever purchased!

Just going by the VIN number, GS1000-703438, everything I have found says it should be an "L"???? This thing has a strange VIN plate, unlike any I have seen before so who knows what it was in a previous life! Of course there is no headstock sticker. And strangely enough, there are no numbers...

Maybe the most "cobbled-together" bike I have ever purchased!

Found this one on Facebook marketplace and picked it up today! (I must be nuts!) Title says it's a '79 GS1000L. It has complete '78 skunk body work, GS1100 aluminum swingarm, 17" rear wheel, GS1100 front fender, CV carbs off of who knows what, '78 skunk gauges, an aftermarket 8"...

    Looking for a '79 GS850G tool tray

Like the title says, I'm looking for a good tool tray for a 1979 GS850G. It is Suzuki part #41551-45102, the plastic tray that covers the battery and holds the factory tool kit. Also used on the following: 1980 GS1000G 1980 GS1000GL 1980 GS850G 1980 GS850GL 1981 GS1000G 1981 GS1000GL 1981...

what did you wrench on today??

Sorry Norm, this one's a keeper! I've sold two recently and I'm down to only 2 old Suzuki's now. Of course, winter is on the way and there has to be one needing rescued out there somewhere! Now, if you're interested in a '79 GS850 we can talk!:p

what did you wrench on today??

Finally got the paint complete on the 1100E. I painted the tank and front fender about a year ago and just now got it back together after painting the rear cowl and side covers. That rear rack is a PITA to install. You need 4 hands, tiny little fingers and a blessing from the pope to get it...
