A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. GS1100E shock rebuild?

Yes, the method you describe would work with a non gas charged twin tube style shock, which sounds like the 83 1100e are if you didn't have a gas charge to deal with. the piston ring being steel and sliding against steel, you will naturally get iron contamination in the oil. The oil i drained...

    GS1100E shock rebuild?

I got the GS1000G shocks cut open last weekend, I'll get some pictures posted. In summary the shocks are basic at best, they are a twin tube oil bath system non gas charged system. The seal head has a outer diameter equal to the id of the shock body that is pressed into the body then the body...

    1100e mpg?

Thanks works for me, my challenge is i have a tank full of ethanol free long term storage fuel, that i don't want to burn up just to get an idea of mileage. Since this bike is really more of a show peice i would like to keep the crappy ethanol gas out of it as much as possible since it won't be...

    Mecum Vegas 2025

Down side is the auction house takes a cut, in rough terms if the seller took the cheapest mercum options then they have to pay Mercum about $1400 out of the $16,500 it sold for. You would need to factor that in too. The seller made 15,000ish minus what ever it cost to get it to Vegas and hotel...

When you have something special like that bike you put it to a big name auction. When you have a bike that has seen use for 20 years you put it on craigslist/facebook. If I was to sell my kat ever i would put it to auction, cause there are very few like it.

i would just mention new top of the line bikes range from 15k to 20k and the super sport stuff 30k. These restored/NOS bike prices at auctions are still in line with what a new bike would cost for the most part and haven't exceeded new bike prices yet even though more hard to come by. There...

It is truly amazing what people have squirreled away. I once had a chance to visit a guy in Flagstaff that had a collection of old Dakar Race bikes sitting in his garage.

restored or unrestored, someone has been into it, it's missing air box covers and the air box, rubber boot dial covers on shocks, some goofy spring contraption on the choke, possible aftermarket windscreen (no GE logo). Heat storage or not, after 40 plus years with oem brake fluid in the brakes...

    81 gs1100e, a top end rebuild story

Back in the days the ape nut was the thing, the OEM nut had a tendency to back off even with the locking tab. I would consider it cheap insurance. Looks like the someone welded the rivets, they would work them selfs loose and rattle everything. The OEM backing plate is a little thin if you are...

    Carb-airbox boots won't stay on?

My Kat air box had metal collars pressed into the inside of the air box boots, those metal collars then sandwiched the the boot hard against the air box hole ID holding the boots firmly. Did the 750 or any of the 1100 do that too? I ask cause I was going to replace my boots with fresh ones but...
