A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Why a rubber plug?

Cool bike. The carb dip at AutoZone is Berryman's Chem-Dip. The big can for $28 even has a basket. Probably at most parts stores. They make the B-12 Chemtool. Interesting carburetor design for sure. Without those rubber plugs the bike will bog and not make it past the mid rpm range. It...

New (to me) GS 1100 Ignition issues

Hello Caseyuconn and welcome to the GSR. Nice bike. I recommend that you introduce yourself in the GS Owners section and embed some pictures to satisfy the need of the members here. That way everyone can say hello as well. The first thing that comes to mind with your electrical problem is...

Turn Signal Rubber Cushions - Different Front than Rear??

Yes. They are the same part numbers for both 18 and 7. 35690-32200. The same question I had for front/rear turn signals on mine when replacing gaskets. I think it's so the customer can identify the front/rear because of mounting bracket differences.

82 GS1100: No spark from coils

Good work on the coil relay, .15v loss is awesome. Test the signal generator first. It's probably not the cause but it's quick to check resistance. Then try to test the ignitor. If your charging voltage was too high before new R/R this could have caused a failure. The ignitor went bad on...

Dyna S Modules - The same across the range?

OK. Didn't know it was that much different. Whoa. Holy cow. I hope they make much higher wages there to compensate. Yes? No?

Dyna S Modules - The same across the range?

Killer, that's true about different locations. I thought the Australian dollar was right on par with ours though, kind of like their government is similar to ours too. Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong currency.

Dyna S Modules - The same across the range?

If no one here has a quick answer then call Dynatek or shoot them an email. I had a question for them and they answered it right away when I called. 800-928-3962. Ask your question. See if they can send you a replacement sensor/pick-up/module for your malfunctioning one cheap. Also, the...

    Tire Pressure

The 10% rule works great as they say. I am close to getting the cold pressures right and the bike handles great. My BT-45's say 42 psi cold. I weigh 160. The bike has some junk in the trunk (not literally but they aren't necessarily lightweight) and I tried them at 42 once for the hell of...

    Front Brake Drag

If there is too much drag then a rebuild and flush is in order. How much drag are we talking? You may have a sticking piston if it's a lot. This is common. When the wheel is off the ground and you try to spin it, how much does it turn? A revolution or two? There should be a little friction...

What type of battery in 1983 450?

Welcome to the GSR, Like you, I had never ridden a motorcycle before acquiring the GS. Also like you, the bike was mine free on the conditions that I got it running and going. I had also only wrenched on cars, and the motorcycle world is surely different. Once the GS was nearly road ready...

82 GS1100: No spark from coils

After it started that one time, what did you do? How many times afterward did you try starting it? Is your ignition fuse good and fuse box clean of corrosion? Are you checking for spark by pulling all the plugs and laying them on the head? If they are old plugs and blackened at all they...

    Valves n Shims...

The compression numbers seem low to me but I don't know what they are for your 850G. It's 128-185 for me. I got 110 cold or so on all 4. In my opinion: 1) Don't ride if your clearances are so tight that no feeler gauge fits and the shim bucket won't turn. That is, won't turn when cam...

    Head Gasket?

Eh. Forces you to always have fresh oil. ;) Grandman, that's awesome. A quick $24 fix thanks to great advice. Saves a lot of frustration in troubleshooting.

Thinking of a Real Gasket valve cover gasket

I have a tach drive gear and decided not to veer from stock. I suggest for the Real Gasket especially to mark across the bolt to the valve cover. It doesn't have to be permanent, just a good pen or pencil to see if they back off within the first few hundred miles. Good luck in deciding. It's...

First Street Bike Project - with a few questions

Good news Sci. Little by little. The shocks/springs feel great. It would've been cool if they were Suzuki orange. The new stuff is so much better and the progressive springs seem to be doing their job well. Maybe if I take this thing apart I'll paint them the Chevy orange. Otherwise...

    Coil swap 650 to 850?

Yeah. I doubt also that both coils would croak at the same time. Have you checked all the wiring to them? Also, I can't see ignition replacements costing anywhere near that.
