A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

    Need stator , sh775, and harness for 1981 GS850G

Try searching for posts on good places to buy the SH775. I found a new take-off on eBay from a Polaris RZR800, part# 4012941. The Triumph connector is perfect if you have the space for it. The part number is T2500676. This isn't essential since you can use regular female spades and fill in...

    My '81 GS1000G

That's what my point was essentially. Raise the fork caps above the clamp, tighten the clamp a bit and then try. His caps seem to be bound by the clamp because the fork sits low. My caps sit above the clamp as a norm.

    My '81 GS1000G

Raise the fork above the top clamp first then see if it will turn. If not, strike the top with a metal hammer to shock it free. These shouldn't be that tight or corroded.

The center sync adjustment on a GS 850gl

Warm the bike up good and unscrew those brackets to move them out of your way. Put the screws back in the carb tops. Start the bike and adjust your idle speed. If you have to rev it just manually open the throttle. I don't know about yours but it's best to keep the cable attached to the carbs...

    chain wear/aligment/possible incorrect sprocket intall?

Bummer. Try the alignment tool and see if it will help. Maybe being just a little straighter will give you some peace of mind.

1982 GS650GL. 2nd gear is busted. Time to take apart the engine

Yes, I should have said repair or rebuilding. This definitely goes beyond the "maintenance" aspect. :lemo:

    chain wear/aligment/possible incorrect sprocket intall?

My bike is certainly different, but my pictures from last year's chain installation appears to have the flange on the inside. I can't be certain, but I do remember testing the best way to put it on even though I documented how it came off. I don't see the flange in my pictures like I see in...

    Shaft to chain swap

I did not know this about gears. I learn something new about motorcycles every day. Cool.

1982 GS650GL. 2nd gear is busted. Time to take apart the engine

I agree. William, you've done a great job. If your first foray into motorcycle maintenance includes successfully rebuilding your engine easily enough then you're a natural. I like your path of clean but not too shiny. Glad it all worked out. The pictures and descriptions were great and will...

    Squeaks in reverse

It's probably just a spot in the chain that squeaks. I had the same thing on my old chain. The noise is gone with the new chain/sprockets.

    Shift light bulbs and headlight

Cool Mankow. That's a neat little project and I like the idea of different colors for the gear indicators.

Is there a point to the center stand?

Not even a nice trip to get away from the wintertime to ride in "your" summertime weather? :p Ah, the esteemed van....A Previa. I used to hate those things because of their style and how weird it seemed to add oil from inside the van. Essentially, a cab-over engine design. Working at an oil...

Is there a point to the center stand?

For the years owning this bike, I have only used the center stand on the concrete garage floor. It makes maintenance stuff so much easier and on concrete the bike is very stable. I've gotten on my creeper and removed the oil pan without having to rest my head on the ground to see. Using it...

    Throttle kills engine

Okay. Your carbs are fully cleaned, the air box is sealed and you have no air leaks. The mixture screws at 3.5 turns out should have caused a really lean idle mixture. Idling without choke is always good. I'd like to stick with simple questions before you tear your carbs open again. Is this...

    Throttle kills engine

Is your petcock in the on position when trying this? How much gas did you put in? If not much, turn to reserve. Otherwise, once started, put in prime to test fuel delivery. Don't leave it there if you turn it off though.

New Rider and '82 GS650GT Owner, from Cape Cod MA

Welcome Anachromy! I, like you, began my motorcycling journey at 29. It stands as one of the most awesome things I've ever done. I had only ever worked on cars before, so there was definitely much to learn. There is probably even more to learn about riding. Have fun and don't rush into riding...

Hello and welcome to the GSR. Have fun with your project. I usually use fully insulated spades from RadioShack. Not cheap but then again it's just what I started to use. You can get piles of retro stuff here: http://www.vintageconnections.com I think that there are a lot of Photobucket...
